Then you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place. Seriously, an RIP thread is not the place for this crap.

Apologize if this has been mentioned here already, but police say he hanged himself with a belt from the closet door:

Don't presume you have any authority over me here or elsewhere.
If you've anything to add- we're breathlessly waiting.

I have no idea why, but this almost strikes me as being worse than shooting himself because it's more involved. Either way, same result.

Some of you (not Dick) seem like the type who would pick a fight at a funeral.

It's a fucking RIP thread. Take it somewhere else.

Not sure that it happened this way here, but in other cases I've heard about, the person hooks it up, then takes sleeping pills or some combination of sleeping pills and perhaps alcohol so that they can then be asphyxiated upon passing out and slumping over. A painless method, I think, is the appeal.

Who picked the fight? Not I.
I'll be happy to finish it, though.

As to the comedians/troubled childhood idea, I've read in numerous places that, while clearly not something out of Dickens (his dad was a car company exec so in material terms he didn't face any issues), his childhood was not without its problems; allegedly he was overweight and a loner as a child, and spent a lot of time by himself.

To me the saddest aspect of this is that he couldn't find the pleasure and amusement he'd brought to millions of lives as a reason to find meaning in life and keep on going. Shows just how insidious depression/addiction can be.

Does walking in and speaking ill of the dead count as picking a fight?
