Dick Vitale would get a massive send off.

Vin Scully, Keith Jackson and Dick Enberg would all get pretty good ones, also.

Good list though I'd be inclined to flip flop Scully and Enberg

They'd be big but not on the level of Scott's Sunday, for various reasons. The fact that he got moments of silence at NFL and NBA games is really remarkable.

Who was the last member of the sports media to get this kind of attention when they died? Harry Caray?

Jim Murray and Jack Buck didn't get this kind of treatment and I understand that, because your average person wouldn't have recognized either. Everybody knew who Stuart Scott was.

Agreed. And a statement from the freaking president.

    Phil Rizzuto.

Maybe in NY. Rizzuto dying didn't register a blip where I live.

I'm not saying it's right, or that's the way it should be.

Vin Scully's death will not get half the coverage nationally that Scott's did.

Maybe it was just a perfect storm.

If someone had told you last week that Stuart Scott was going to die and they were going to have moments of silence for him at NFL and NBA games, a statement from the president, and have it be one of the top news stories nationally, would you have believed it?

    I would not have.

I think the age factors in as well. If someone dies at 49 it's a bigger deal than someone who dies at 85.
