Godspeed James. From reading these tributes, I am sure that heaven is a great place to be right now.

Brilliant tributes Piotr, Claws and Mateo. Very, very well-done.

Because I was out of the biz, I never crossed professional paths with James, except on the odd threads around here. But he sounded like someone who was passionate about his job and his friends.

And it hurts everyone when we lose someone like that.

F_T told me about this last night; I hadn't seen the thread. Amid all the R.I.P. threads that adorn the board, when we lose One of Us, it really hurts.

    R.I.P. James.

Here's another photo that I found on James' myspace page that made me laugh.

I get a call from James, asking me if I was busy one Saturday. I told him I had to work, and he said that he was going to interview a WWE diva. I wished him luck, then found out later that he talked to WWE diva/Playboy centerfold Ashley Massaro.

I still curse him to this day! Well, maybe not curse him...

The tributes from Claws, Piotr and Mateo are three of the best things I've read on this site. Godspeed to Tripp.

What he said. I kept it together until I hit Mateo's post.

A glass in your honor, James. Rest well.

    Fucking outstanding!

I could only hope to have a friend like you remember me in such a way.

    Outstanding.

    Piotr and Mateo,

You honored your friend extremely well. I didn't know Tripp well on here. He always struck me as a nice, level guy and I was really saddened by his thread about his grandfather/father -- I could tell it sincere and heartfelt. I didn't weigh in because I rarely do on threads like that. I feel uncomfortable. I don't handle my own emotions well sometimes, and I stay away from dealing with others' heartaches.

I probably wouldn't have weighed in on this thread, either -- although I feel so sad and down by the news. But your tributes to James really made me feel like I knew him--you painted the picture of a wonderful person who I wish I had known better. And as a result, he is now more real to me than the occasional poster on a message board I had only sort of gotten to know. It must have been hard to write your tributes to James, but thanks for posting them. You did him proud and I will remember him fondly through your eyes, as much as for what he brought to SportsJournalists.com.

    RIP James.

What terrible news. Didn't know him, but it's still a shock to hear the loss of one of us. RIP.

I received this email from pro wrestler Rob Van Dam, after I sent him a note about James.

Wow! That is a shocker. It seems like I was just talking to him a few short weeks ago.
I've been thinking about him and an interview we did.
Thank you for passing this information on to me, as sad as it is.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Glad to know you were able to get the word to RVD, a guy who was a star wrestler yet ALWAYS made time for James and the respect was quite mutual. I know in my tribute I mention CM Punk as James' favorite wrestler, but I think he'd also give mention to RVD as well as Bryan Danielson, Low Ki and Samoa Joe and countless more who were ROH guys.

Dave Meltzer ran a short item in his update today on the wrestlingobserver.com site that I'd sent to him concerning James. I also sent and got a reply from Todd Martin, a writer who does Meltzer's RAW TV reviews on the Web site and did MMA writing and knew James. Meltzer was introduced to James at one of the many UFC PPVs he attended in Vegas. Todd sent me a very nice e-mail in response.
