I'm sick about this. We first bonded on here over 10 years ago when we professed our dislike of Halloween. We exchanged many PMs over the years, and like Double Down posted, I remember the personal stuff almost more than the journalism stuff. I feel like we, as a community, went with him through many huge transitions in his life.

I have really enjoyed reading the posts and tributes, but I especially loved seeing his picture. He is EXACTLY as I imagined: Distinguished and yes, good-looking. SF, I think those young ladies were smiling at you because they thought you were cute-- period.

To Amy and his family, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry for this board's loss.

I'm just sick, that's all I can say.

You've got to be kidding me! They must have fixed the picture by the time I clicked on it.

You know, as I was writing my post about what happened I didn't really think about the unintentional comic relief it might provide because I truly was pissed when I saw that on FB. I'm glad those of you who knew him a lot better than I did were able to spin it the way you did.

What's really amazing is the Sun Sentinel will make a lot of money for this tribute because it is so long and the staff failed to go all out to make it right.

I didn't want to say anything publicly yesterday about the continued fuckups by the Sun-Sentinel, waiting for Krissy to do so (I did tell her about AK's rant and spaceman's response). She's now posted this on Criag's facebook page:

"By the way, folks, the wrong photo ran in the Sun-Sentinel as well. The print obit will not run tomorrow either (don't ask) but I'm going for T, W, Th, Fri, Sat, etc. Will keep you, pardon the pun, POSTED."

Some moments I tell myself that this isn't that important in the scheme of everything right now, but the lack of response and respect to Craig - someone who fucking worked there for g-d's sake - from the Sun-Sentinel is truly hurtful to us.

What a clusterf. And ridiculous. So sorry you're all having to deal with this.

Nothing funny about it. It's an utter travesty, and disgraceful.

If it were my father someone would have to hold me back.

Prayers for all affected by his passing.

Definitely a disgrace. I think what people found funny, maybe even cathartic, was the prospect of what Stanke's reaction would be, and even his girlfriend said she was grateful for the laugh.

    But yes, disgraceful error.

This is all part of what we are all hating about this business right now -- even as we still continue to try to love it. It seems that it is just falling apart, and can't get anything right.

I don't even mean that so much in terms of typos or wrong photos (although that certainly is part of it), I mean it more in terms of respect, for your work, for your subject, for your product. C'mon...

Someone from the Sun-Sentinel should be messaged to come here. Then, maybe, they will be a little ashamed, and start realizing that, you know what? As much as journalists try to keep some distance from their work in the interests of objectivity, that doesn't mean they shouldn't care about it.

Newspapers and the people who work for them need to realize that obits are not simple space-fillers, usually tucked into the back pages, and often, around ads. They are, in many cases, a last gift about a loved one that can be given. That should be respected and treated as such.

My dad's name was misspelled in his obit in the first paper I worked for, three years before I started there. When my mom died, I wrote the obit for that paper.

    Yes, it is that important.

    Un-freakin-believeable.
