When it comes to Uga, people across the state loved that dog. He represented so much. Some UGA men would actually wait until media day when they got their picture with Uga, to propose to their girlfriends. Uga is much more than a dog to the Georgia community. He represents strength even when everything is going against you.

My lawyer knows Sonny Seiler and passed this gem along to me. When Clint Eastwood was in town for the pre production work on "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," he went to Sonny's office. He asked to meet the current Uga and Sonny called his wife and told her to bring the dog in. Clint and Uga hit off and Clint said, "Uga, I'm going to make you a star."
Mrs. Seiler: "Mr. Eastwood, Uga is already a star."

But since we're not supposed to speak ill of the dead, be they two legged or four legged, I'll keep my comments to myself on the little leghumper.

There are two candidates to be the next Uga, but Sonny hasn't decided which will get the nod. They were hoping to get another season out of Uga VI before making the switch.

Everyone loves a good dog. Hell, I have no connections to Georgia whatsoever, but the moment I heard Uga died during a sports radio update on the way to work, I knew I would get that story in the paper -- at least in the briefs -- one way or another tonight.

Brad Renfro was a Tennessee guy. He's probably pretending to throw a stick to UGA VI (while, of course, putting the stick behing his back).

Maybe later. He's worn out from humping Lyle Alzado's leg.

So will the State of Georgia have an official day of mourning for Uga?

An oldie but a goodie: http://home.danwashburn.com/writings/rip_my_day_with_the_late_uga_v.php

Written by a former colleague of mine -- the best writer I've ever worked with -- back in 2000. A day in the life of the late Uga VI. Gives a pretty good description of the dog's appeal to Georgia fans.

The dog is an icon. I don't have a problem with this being "big news"

The coolest mascots in college sports are UGA and Colorado's Buffalo.

Everything else is so far off it's not even funny.
