Eight pages already? Damn, homie. They were playing "I Want To Dance With Somebody" quite a bit at the bar tonight. At least once an hour.

Damn, dude, I respect and envy you. Didn't take my first music lesson till I was 39 and finally started guitar. I've stayed with it for 12 years and love it, but I'll never be as good as I want to be. Got to play in a band for a while, but will always wonder why I didn't start young.

There are a lot of people in the RnR HOF who never recorded a rock song.

Name one who's repertoire is less rock than Whitney Houston's.

And since I commented on my envy for Bodie's musical training, I figure I should weigh in on the actual topic of this thread:

    What. A. Waste.

    Billy Ocean? What?

You clearly didn't live where I did. Phil Collins circa '85/No Jacket Required was so ubiquitous that a Milwaukee top 40 radio station had a Phil Collins Free weekend at one point.

He was all over MTV too. I'm pretty sure MTV's entire 1985 playlist was:

    1. Sussudio
    2. Everybody Wants To Rule The World
    3. One More Night
    4. Easy Lover
    5. fucking We Are The World
    6. Don't Lose My Number
    7. Money For Nothing
    8. Take Me Home
    9. Take On Me
    10. Separate Lives (a truly awful song)

That's it. Maybe they slipped Raspberry Beret in once in a while for shits and giggles too.

I'm not saying Collins is A1 material, he ain't, but there was a time when you couldn't swing your 80s cock around and not hit (Billy) Don't You Lose My Number or Sussudio.

    Oh yeah. Whitney Houston. RIP.

I will say this ... great voice or not, what has Houston done in the last 10-15 years that makes her any more relevant than Collins musically? I honestly don't think either is A1 worthy.

    Except for avatar purposes.

Now she can finally record that duet with Amy Winehouse.

How many "song wins" does Berry have?

No to all. People stop giving a shit about some people at a certain point (see Collins, Phil) but some peoples' fame lasts for generations and never appreciably fade. Like Mick, Bruce, Michael...

Current singers who would make A1 above the fold just because they are in the current spotlight would include Justin Timberlake, Whitney Spears, Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye and a couple others probably.

The biggest tragedy of all...she died only a week before Maya Rudolph hosts SNL.
