But was that because he was an asshole?

    Bill clearly overlooked Dusty's out-of-control clubhouses . . . especially in Chi-Town.

    Un-believable.

After he loses to Hillary maybe the Yanks should hire Obama? Not black enough for Rhoden[/Sheffield]!

Hell, why not Sheffield himself? All we heard this year out of Detroit was just bucketful and bucketful of all that stuff about how he was a "seasoned savvy leader," "a great presence in the locker room," yadda yadda blah blah.

Funny, with all that savvy veteran leadership in the locker room (Kenny Rogers was allegedly exuding/excreting it too), the Tigers once again managed to go about 30-50 in the second half of the season. Wonder how that can happen.

    Buck,

Gaston would be an outstanding choice, if the Yankees weren't starting to go with their youth. Cito could handle a couple of kids, but not a whole starting rotation of them.

    Headbutt,

I strongly disagree with your assertion that he was an asshole. My career started in sports radio in April 1994, and I covered the Blue Jays at a time when Gaston's -- and the organization's -- fortunes changed for the worse. I was new, and I'd heard his reputation. But he was patient with me 99 per cent of the time. Looking back, I know I was lucky to deal with him at a time I was raw and inexperienced.

The true asshole was Mike Mussina. ;D

Anyone else hear the rumblings that basically the Cards and Yanks will swap managers?

How many times do I have to say it. Torre is headed to the Royals w/ A-Rod.

I don't believe it for a second. But I love reading that. I swear I'll laugh every single time.

    Mark,

Didn't hear about Torre heading back to St. Louis. Did hear the Torre's enemies in the Yankee organization are stumping for La Russa.

I've said it about 2,000 times.
Hey, a dude with memories of one winning season can dream, right?
