If you're going to threaten me, you should use one of my quotes.

His apology - the real one, not the column - came too late and came across as insincere to me.

His immediate reaction wasn't that he'd done anything major wrong. He wrote a flippant column about how buddy-buddy his is with the coach and how it's OK for him to make it personal because that's the kind of relationship they have, to paraphrase Parker.

He used the "sorry" (or maybe "apologize," I forget) but it came across as "I'm pretending to apologize because my editors need me to cover my ass, but the only thing I'm sorry about is Marinelli didn't bite at my stupid joke."

It wasn't until he learned Marinelli, not the buddy Parker thought he was, took him to task that he then gave something that sounded a little more substantial.

Had he bypassed the column - or manned up immediately - I think this would have faded quicker. But he didn't.

He didn't go to Green Bay and hasn't written since the fiasco column

    JGU = Just Grow Up.
As far as the apology goes, I think it was done in a timely manner. Now for the sincerity issue, I think that is up to Parker's employers and the coach. If the coach accepted his apology and has moved on, why is it so difficult for others to do the same?
Parker said it was a bad joke. OK, it was a bad joke and he apologized. I'd like to think that the issue has run its course. What more can be or should be done?

Drip: It's important that the lesson is learned.

We are not in a press conference to be flip and be funny.

we are there to do a job.

This guy overstepped his bounds. made a stupid mistake, compounded it with the column, then apologized.

We can move on, but we need to learn the lesson.

No question there is a great lesson learned from this. However, from reading and re-reading the posts, there appear to be so many who want more than an apology.

I've stayed out of this because I know nothing (though that hasn't stopped some from posting).
As a former SE, let me add this: If it was a one-time blip and out of character for the guy, let him apologize and move on - so long as he's clear it best not happen again.
If he has a history of bullcrap, this is a straw that could and should break the camel's back.

Don't know this guy from Adam. He's not one of my close, personal friends. Never read a word he's written, so I don't know if he's good or if he sucks. Haven't a clue of his history.

So pick one of the above, A or B.
