Parker likes to style himself as a "cutesy TV guy."

Probably not a bad idea, given the quality of his writing.

There should be some movement soon. No, he won't be fired.

Is ESPN giving Rob a raise over this?

Probably because Parker makes a habit of drilling Marinelli every week. Not that he doesn't deserve it but I'm sure a lot of people consider it being a smart ass and piling on the guy. I know I do.

To play Parker's advocate at least to some extent, Parker is about the only person at Lions' press conferences who makes any attempt whatsoever to cut through Marinelli's endless gushing river of dim-witted dumbass cliches, blathering boilerplate pointing strongly to the conclusion that he either doesn't comprehend what's wrong with the team, doesn't have a clue what to do about it, or doesn't give a shit.

Pretty much all the other sheep simply swallow the pablum down.

I think it's a little ridiculous to suggest Parker be punished for this. He's explained what he was thinking and his relationship with Marinelli and apologized. I think that's adequate considering his comment wasn't really a slap at Marinelli's daughter as much as at the defensive coordinator of winless team.

disagree wholeheartedly. rob insulted the daughter's taste in men. that argument aside, the way a newspaper reporter or columnist behaves when he's representing said newspaper is a major issue, i'd argue. dress like a professional and conduct your business like a professional. all too often, it seems i'm hearing examples of rob not comporting himself in a manner anywhere close to a person representing a newspaper.

he acted like a talk-radio jerk. let him do it on some radio station's dime.

the more we discuss this issue, the more convinced i become that there is no defending rob on this one.

It's not his place to do the slapping.

The more we discuss the issue the more I think too many people are acting like wimps. Kill this thread. Leave the guy alone. He apologized. He was trying to crack a joke. It's not like people in our business haven't been totally abused by coaches who don't get disciplined. Let it die.
