The beauty of the newspaper business is that Rob Parker can always write another shitty column tomorrow.

If you read the column, you'll see that Parker brings up the fact that while Bonds has been accused of taking steroids, nothing has been proven. I can't speak for Rob but I believe the crux of his story is that Aaron should be there unless it is proven that Bonds cheated.
I think that is a very good argument. The lead was definitely harsh and maybe over the top, but it was just that, a lead. It did what it was supposed to do, get you interested in the piece.

Perhaps. But calling him a coward? Enduring taunts and death threats is OK, but not showing up for this makes him a coward?
    Parker's fundamental argument is flawed..

    Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

Hank Aaron doesn't owe Barry Bonds anything. He doesn't have to be there to see his record fall.

And calling a man a coward isn't OK just because it gets people's attention. You damn sure better to be able to back it up, and Parker doesn't come close to that here.

    He owes Aaron an apology.

And what is your point? Are you that interested in what I'm saying that you ACTUALLY counted my posts? If you went through all that trouble, I'm flattered. My question is Why?

No, what he's saying it it's almost sweeps. Get new material, he's tired of reruns...

I agree with every word of this post. Aaron hasn't bashed Bonds, he's now an elderly man who's simply indicated that he'd like to be left in peace and not be a part of this whole mess. That's hardly an unreasonable or "cowardly" position given his circumstances.

I suspect Parker was trying to pull a Whitlock by taking a different and controversial angle toward the issue. But he's repeatedly shown that he's got a minute fraction of Whitlock's writing ability and intelligence and, where Whitlock's controversial pieces came off as daring and provocative, Parker's piece comes off as just plain dumb. If you're gonna hang the coward label on an icon as revered as Hank Aaron, you better bring some real substance to back it up. Parker doesn't even come close.

As if threads on this board don't go on for pages and pages past the point when they should be put down?

Slappy, I appreciate the response but I really want to hear from someone who took the time to do the research. It boggles my mind that someone would do something like that. I can't think any plausible or sane reasoning for it and I'm not trying to be a wise ass here.

  11. You soil every thread you come onto, Boots, by making intangential, self-referencing comments, then repeating yourself because either (a) you didn't make the argument good enough the first time or (b) you want to become the focal point of everything here. I can't tell which.

I thought this was a pretty good discussion until you waddled on here, because it was mostly about Parker's audacious and incorrect "coward" comment, not about Parker himself. But you shifted it to Parker and yourself -- there you go.

THIS THREAD WASN'T ABOUT ME. What are you talking about? It was about Rob. I simply pointed out that I'm tired of the Rob bashing and issued a challenge to those what think they can do better, to do so.
You, have the situation twisted like a pretzel. Why would you actually waste time to count my posts? I have yet to hear that explanation.
I think I know the answer. You don't have one. Talk about a true waste of time. Either you are infactuated with what my posts are or you don't have much going on in your life. Unbelieveable.
