    Catch the taste!

  2. Most people I know who vote think Alomar is an automatic HOF player.
Best at his position in his era etc. etc.
I was surprised to hear that.

  3. Surprised to hear what?

  4. That his candidacy was considered to be such a unanimous choice. I guess he just fell off my radar.

  5. - 12 consecutive All-Star games
    - 10 Gold Gloves in 11 years
    - 4 Silver Slugger awards

If you compare him to Ryne Sandberg (the last 2nd baseman elected to the HOF) you find that Alomar leads Sandberg in runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBI, batting average, on base percentage, OPS and OPS+. Alomar was also clearly the better player with the glove. If Sandberg is in then Alomar clearly deserves induction.

What Alomar has working against him are four things:

    - He didn't spend his whole career with one team like Sandberg
    - The incident where he spit at umpire John Hirshbeck
    - Comparisons to more offensive minded players like Craig Biggio and Jeff Kent
    - How his career just fell completely apart those last four years

And now you have the AIDS allegations. There are many out there like Peter Gammons who absolutely love Alomar but you have to be realistic and note that there are few places more homophobic than a major league locker room and that goes for many of the writers. The AIDS allegations will give many close-minded voters a reason to vote against him. This could realistically cost him induction into the HoF

He had a tremendous run. HOF in my book, despite the drop off.

And let's not forget he played in the steroids era -- where some people are saying that nobody can be trusted and that might be worth losing a few votes as well

The AIDS allegations could help him. Gives credence to the dropoff.

Roberto Alomar as a HOFer isn't even up for debate, in my opinion.

And to add to Chris's list, you can throw in two World Series rings

It's cute how you use the past tense.

I'm more inclined to believe a link from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention than I am to believe a random inane posting from a blowhard.

    Where's the fun in that?

Uninformed opinions are what makes this place great!!
