Kids will ALWAYS be pissed about something, whether it's justified or not. Lately, that seems to manifest itself musically as angst, not rage like it was when I was a kid.
The GM of the local LiveNation theater here gave a presentation to my neighborhood organization the other day. He had many interesting things to say, but the one that struck out the most was about Jimmy Buffett. He's coming to our theater, and the GM said they needed to sell 19K tickets to break even. The problem is, the theater seats 14K. "Jimmy just gets to tell Live Nation where he wants to go, and when he wants to be there. He is the ONLY act that can do that, and we even own tours from Foo Fighters and Maroon Five and Luke Bryan...but Jimmy is the biggest dog of all."
That's 'cause Jimmy's concerts are AWESOME. Hell, just the pre-show scene in the parking lot is worth the price of admission.
Is there any "young talent" — male or female — at the Jimmy Buffett shows anymore? All the Parrotheads I know are at least 55, many in their 60s.
They bring their kids. That's what I did last time I went to one, and we ran into one of my son's buddies who was there with his dad and sisters. He is awesome.
It's mostly angst. When you're a kid, you take it much more seriously and mistake it for rage. But it's really angst. You're just old enough now to recognize it.
