    That explains a lot.

Curious where some of the power pop bands of the '90s like the Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket have aged, in the board's estimation. I get that it was mom rock at the time. But listening now, wow, is it some bittersweet stuff. There's so much longing and regret in those songs, it's a double punch to the gut to listen to at nearly 40, nostalgic songs that trigger nostalgia.

I think Kendrick Lamar is the best artist out there right now. He's phenomenal.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood has been getting good reviews. Lots of people saying he looks much happier than in the past several years of the Crowes.

Not being snarky, but can you explain why you think Alabama Shakes is one of the great new bands you like.
Reason I'm asking is that my wife and I saw them open the show for Neil Young and Crazy Horse in 2012 at Tuscaloosa and maybe it was just a bad night, but we both thought they sucked. The songs were very emotionless, the lead singer was very unattractive and they didn't seem to have any standout musicians

Did you demand a refund because "the lead singer was very unattractive"?

Wow -- just listened to Reignwolf on SoundCloud. Thanks for the link -- not a lot of newer stuff does much for me but that was good. Reminds me of some of the "Stoner Rock" from about a decade ago -- Wolfmother, Monster Magnet,Fu Manchu, etc. -- which was the last new genre I appreciated (though it was obviously very derivative of 60s/70s psychedelic/hard rock).

The only other newer guitar-oriented "rock" in the traditional sense that I've found interesting is the Southern stuff -- Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Adams, Old Crow Medicine Show, Drive-By Truckers.

I find myself gravitating more and more toward blues music to get my guitar fix. Been listening to a lot of Rory Gallagher lately.

Dude, those bands suck. They sucked in the '90s, and they suck today. They're so full of suck they can't suck any more.

Fuck that. Toad the Wet Sprocket's "Fall Down" is a great song.

Saw the Gin Blossoms my senior year in high school at a outdoor festival at the local college. One of my friends was bit on the shoulder. Broke skin and drew blood. Still one of the strangest experiences of my life because A. He was a pretty low key guy ( some of us were being typical wiseass teens, but he was just standing there) B. It was a Gin Blossoms concert....who gets violent at a Gin Blossoms concert? C. Seriously, a Gin Blossoms concert? What they heck were we doing there in the first place

I like/liked both the Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket. They were mom rock? Guess I didn't get the memo! Or it says something about my teen years. Anyway, I think New Miserable Experience is a really good album. Definitely one of my favorites from the day.
