To "beg the question" is to use as proof of your argument a premise that treats your argument as correct. An example: "Celibacy is not a healthy life choice, because it's unhealthy for adults to forego sex." Lots of folks trip up on it. If you read a lot of opinion pieces and are looking out for it, you'll see it all the time.

What you meant to write, I think, is "raise(s) the question."

Going to interrupt here to rant that not allowing someone to impose their beliefs on others is not an abbreviation of said believer's right to practice their religion unless that practice includes pressure to convert to their brand of Christianity. There. I said it. In this country, it is, after all, a Christian problem. I could get extremely local and say it's a Tennessee Christian problem. Candidates are promising to "protect my religious freedom." The last time I checked, no one was banging on the sanctuary doors of St Manfred the Chagrined and demanding we start serving Welches and saltines for communion. Exactly who's "religious freedom" is being curtailed? You serve your snacks at your church and we'll serve our snacks at our church and everybody will hopefully get along. Jesus.

My wife and I were on Broadway Saturday night, and some guy had a boy under 10 with him handing out "you're going to hell" pamphlets.
