Ok, Trumpists. This is your chance to tell us why abortion bans are a net benefit for society. Are you really willing to tell me that it’s morally right to let women die because they’re pregnant or might become pregnant?

Anyone on that side being intellectually honest will tell you that the answer is yes. The (unborn) child’s life is sacrosanct.

Which is at least a defensible moral position. No taking of lives in any cases. The Pope, to his credit, follows through on that one in all cases.

He also wrote "might become pregnant." The not-yet-conceived child doesn't have a life. With braces and the right acne medication, maybe, but we're not there yet.

How does that part even play in? Contraception’s not gone. Yet. Or am I missing something?

Contraception impedes fertilization. It denies life a beginning which is the same as killing life. The Christians will make contraception illegal given the chance.

Actually, they're complicating the process of getting refills for vital medication simply because a woman may become pregnant. They're demanding pregnancy tests under the assumption that a request for a refill of a longstanding medication is really a ruse for an abortion.

Claire Eby, who lives near Austin, has taken methotrexate since she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at age 4. When she was 18, her doctors tried to wean her off the drug, believing she was going into remission.

"Things went down south really fast," said Eby, now 26. She developed inflammation in her eyes, which led to cataracts. The medicine that stopped her eyes from deteriorating further was methotrexate.

"Your health can deteriorate rapidly and also permanently," if you stop taking methotrexate, Eby said. "My vision damage was permanent."

Eby said she takes birth control, but her doctors also recently added a pregnancy test to the routine lab work she has to undergo every three months to stay on the medication - a change that coincided with Texas's increasingly strict abortion restrictions.

"They hadn't done that before," Eby said.

Attorneys general and their lieutenants, I suppose. Anybody who pharmacists fear might come for their licenses.
You do raise a good point about the story. It does not specify who these people are. It does not have, for example, threatening text from a law-enforcement official. That might help.
Maybe these states don't need to threaten directly. Maybe that's one of their tools: fear.
The bottom line is that the chilling effect from SCOTUS is going way beyond prevention of abortion. It's going to wind up costing a lot of people. And the Trumpist klan doesn't care.

I think the bottom line is that it's becoming increasingly evident, whichever side of the political aisle you're on, freedom is only threatened when the government is against the issues you happen to agree with. If it's something you disagree with, your particular klan doesn't care.
