Winslow and the Browns agreed to a contract extension in October 2005 that extends the former first-round pick's deal through 2010. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the reworked deal includes incentives that allow Winslow to recoup much of the bonus money he forfeited because he violated the terms of his contract when he injured himself in a motorcycle accident. Winslow will receive a bonus if he passes his physical at the start of training camp in 2005, and other incentives allow him to make up some or all of the $2 million in bonuses he lost. Winslow's original deal, signed after a two-week holdout in August of 2004, included a $10.8 million signing bonus as part of $16.5 million in guaranteed money. The low end of the original contract was reportedly $29 million, according to the Plain Dealer; the top end, assuming all incentives were reached and escalator clauses activated, was $40 million.

Winslow had to give back some bonus money. I think the Browns gave him an incentive clause that will allow him to earn it back when he gets healthy. I think he gave back about $2 million...

Not to pile on Big Ben or motorcyclists, but I've never been able to understand the arguments people have presented about why then don't wear a helmet. You feel free, yes, but is it really a feeling you lose all that much by wearing a helmet? I've been a passenger a few times and wouldn't want to ride without a helmet.

Am I the only one who thinks the woman is as much at fault for not yielding to the green light as Ben is for not wearing a helmet?

No, I don't think so. I imagine it would have been discussed, esp. by the team, when his previous quotes were attributed. There's probably a dangerous activity one, right?

Let's say Big Ben was wearing a helmet. How less severe would his injuries be? Plus, reports seem to be that the car that Ben crashed into ran a red light.

So let's posit that the accident was unavoidable from his end because someone pulled in front of him. And let's posit that he was wearing a helmet. Perhaps his head injuries would be less severe. But he most likely would still have the knee injuries, which could very well be career-ending.

Here's a gem. Terry Bradshaw telling Big Ben not to be stupid. Love how Bradshaw was told to park his Corvette. Someone should have said the same thing to Dany Heatley about his sports car ...

Yup, helmet or not, sounds like his knees are fucked up.

It's stupid for an athlete who relies on his body to ride a motorcycle on the streets. Apparently, from reading here, he's the Pope of Pittsburgh. So to put yourself in a position to be at the mercy of some lady not paying attention to a motorcylist is just not smart.
