LOL. They were even bigger back then!!
We were in a 40 km/h zone and he managed to see her coming and slow down enough so that we weren't hurt, other than a few scrapes and bruises.

So that's what happened to Olberman.

Most every player has an umbrella clause that covers this and other blatantly dangerous activity (ie, skydiving).  Team insurance won't cover a player without it, and additional personal coverage won't cover at all.

Another thing, that other woman involved in the accident is probably going to be identified, and it's not going to be pretty when the Steeler fanboy/girl backlash starts, especially if she ran the red light. She might be making plans to move out of state.

There are shadows at that intersection from the road overhead and it's been a trouble spot because of that.

As for Roethlisberger's personality, I cover the team on a daily basis and Ragu is right on the money: Ben's a prince with most people. The person who ripped him on this thread doesn't know him well; part of the faceless mob is my guess, or maybe works for WPXI TV. Roethlisberger cut off a mob interview last week because WPXI was there. They'd parked a van outside his apartment last season while he was injured and recently covered the towing of one of his vehicles parked near his apartment.

The police are not releasing the 62-year-old woman's name.

Well, she's going to need a new windshield, at a minimum.

Maybe not, but she's already been identified here.

The car, a New Yorker with Maine plates, was driven by Martha Fleishman, 62, of Squirrel Hill, who made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and Roethlisberger flew into the windshield and then hit the ground head first.

Roethlisberger was bleeding heavily from a head injury, and blood pooled on the pavement. The witness said he was not wearing a helmet.

The entire front end of the motorcycle, was destroyed. The car sustained damage on the passenger side door. Fleishman's husband, Martin, confirmed in a telephone interview that his wife was the driver but said the couple didn't want to discuss what happened.

"We really have no statement," Martin Fleishman said. "We certainly hope everything goes well for Mr. Roethlisberger, but we have no other statement. Certainly this is terrible and unfortunate. We hope he has a speedy recovery."

He wouldn't comment on his wife's physical or emotional condition in the wake of the accident other than to say, "She's doing as best as she can."

If I'm not mistaken, the guy who questioned Ragu's assessment is the same guy who had no sympathy for the dead West Virginia coal miners because, he suggested, they knew the risks and should have studied harder in school and had better jobs.

Two idiots here: Roethlisberger, for not wearing a helmet. Stupid broad, for not noticing the motorcycle.

    Bikers: Wear a fucking lid.

    Drivers: Use your fucking eyes.

I have no idea where that came from, but I laughed my ass off.

Listen, Roethlisberger was the stupidest of fucks for not wearing a helmet.

But I don't get this "I have no sympathy for not wearing a helmet" shit. Have sympathy because he's a human being, he did something stupid, it doesn't mean it should be a damn death sentence.

Sympathy and decrying him for being stupid are, to me, mutually exclusive. He was stupid and I have sympathy for him. I hope he's OK and can somehow return to the field.

Shit, I ran around in the woods with a buck knife when I was a kid, fell down, and nearly impaled my throat. I once bet a friend I couldn't break my garage window (long story), proceeded to hit it as hard as I could, broke it, cut the shit out of my hand, and lost $5. Both redefined dumb as hell, but it doesn't mean you wouldn't have sympathy. Er, OK, no sympathy really needed for the garage thing, but just sayin' ...

And I don't think he'll be doing any Fathead commercials anytime soon either. :-X :-X :-X
