Helmets are mandatory in NJ too, poin, but apparently a lot of states do not have helmet laws.

I wish Roethlisberger no ill, but how fucking stupid are these multi-millionaire athletes to (a.) be riding the damn motorcycles to begin with and (b.) not to wear a freaking helmet.

    downright stupidty and carelessness

You don't have to wear a helmet in Pennsylvania.

    And dear Pittsburgh stations:

Right now is NOT a good time to use the cutsie Big Ben in titling your coverage.

    Roethlisberger hurt in motorcycle crash
    Monday, June 12, 2006

By Michael A. Fuoco, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on the 10th Street Bridge today.

Roethlisberger was injured shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Second Avenue side of the bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.

Steelers' spokesman David Lockett confirmed Roethlisberger was involved and is being treated at Mercy Hospital.

An eyewitness said she saw a motorcycle headed outbound on Second Avenue as a car was coming inbound. The car made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and the operator flew into the windshield and then hit the ground.

The witness said she went to the aid of the motorcyclist and asked his name. He said it was "Ben" and tried to get up, but she told him to stay still.

The victim was bleeding heavily from a head injury.

Roethlisberger has been known to refuse to wear a helmet when operating his cycle.

You may be one of the few, June, who can get into the P-G site.

I can't get into either of the paper's Web sites. thepittsburghchannel.com is working for me.

Nor is it easy to get on the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's site right now. ESPN's ticker just ran something about the accident.

I know I still haven't been able to access it. Thank you, June.

We need DocTalk or maybe a lawyer here.

The blood doesn't necessarily seem to be a horrible sign. Head wounds bleed a lot.

The fact that he could talk was good.

    Hope he's OK.

Riding a motorcyle without a helmet is just reckless.

My co-workers are joking about Big Ben as I'm typing this. I know we can be the cynical types, but this isn't funny.

At the least, he's got a concussion.

  12. This is good.  Browns fans have something to smile about now that the same thing happened to the Steelers 2004 draft pick as did theirs.
