Garcia should be at least 40 spots higher.

Didn't they fucking put John Mayer on one of these things not that long ago?

For all his sorority-house-pinup douchiness, the guy's a pretty good guitarist.

I have heard from more than one person that Mayer can absolutely shred.

Leslie West recently put out an album with guests including Bonamassa, Billy Gibbons, Zakk Wylde and ohters who slip my mind right now.

Cool video of West and Bonamassa:

Brad Paisley knows how to play the guitar. If you haven't heard it yet, go find his (mostly) instrumental album, called Play: The Guitar Album. There is a lot of good stuff on there.

Also, on CMT, they have a series called "Crossroads", where a country artist and an artist from a different genre do a live concert and perform together. Brad and John Mayer (who, yes, is an excellent guitarist as well) played together on the series. Probably one of the best episodes of that series that they've done.

Fucker can play, to borrow from a fellow SportsJournalists.com member.

I need to find out who the producer is. Looks kinda like Bonamassa's guy. Kevin Shipley, or something like that.

  9. Don't understand the hate for Pete Townshend here.

From 1964 and through 2011, he's made more kids pick up a guitar (and on the flip side, put down the guitar) than any flashy 7-note- at-a-time esoteric guitarist that the contrarians in high school would love to bring up.

Hell, Hendrix had to set his guitar on fire because he didn't know how to top him at Monterey.

And, as for the Beatles, Paul was also the best drummer in the band.

    That's not subjective.

Zappa was a great guitar player.
Joni Mitchell is a great guitar player.
Chet Atkins was one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

I hadn't noticed any hate for Townshend??

I'd put him in the top 15, borderline top 10.

The idea of rating Harrison (for instance) above him, is preposterous. And he would have said so, too.

Joni Mitchell is not a top 100 ROCK guitar player -- probably not a top 1000.

Joni Mitchell is great at the things she is great at, but rock guitar-playing is not one of them.
