The Doors don't sound as "dated" (IMO admittedly) because their music was jazz-influenced, not blues-influenced like the Stones and Led Zep.

John Coltrane and Miles Davis were huge influences on Robbie Krieger, and all three (and George Harrison of course) were influenced in turn by Ravi Shankar, which I find extremely interesting.

I think The Doors sound 10 times more dated than Led Zeppelin. That's probably the direct result of few bands trying to emulate The Doors and many still working on Led Zeppelin impressions.

The pre-synthesizer Gibson G101 that Ray Manzarek used is a trademark sound as much as Bonzo's percussion. But the Doors sound is hard to duplicate. A few bands attempted a revival in Britain in the early 90s (Inspiral Carpets, etc.) with short-lived success.

    The Doors weren't blues-influenced?

Backdoor Man, Crawling Kingsnake are the blues covers just off the top of my head.

I think he's making the point that The Doors weren't just blues ripoff artists like the Stones and, to a lesser extent Zeppelin. They could branch out much more in their music.

Poaching aside, Led Z was a lot more than blues ripoff artists. As players, both bands are very accomplished.

The Stones were more limited in scope, musically. That might be a fair assessment.

Ya, I was kinda just fucking with the Stones fans and Zeppelin was collateral damage. If I had to pick one to listen to for eternity, I'd choose The Doors because of their uniqueness, but the musicianship of Page, Bonham and Jones is ridiculous.

There's just something gimmicky and wonky and dated to the beginning of "Light My Fire" and many other Doors songs that were heavy on the organ.

    You just don't appreciate art.

My favorite Doors song is "People are Strange," for what it's worth. Jim Morrison made sense and the music was a little more traditional.
