Pundits were calling the Democratic Party dead in the '90s, at least when it came to taking back the House and Senate. Just look at Canada where the Liberal Party is useless at a national level right now. Opinions changes, parties adapt, and voters get sick of parties in control for too long.

You know what's not like mid-term elections? Presidential elections.

The rest is just a long way of avoiding the obvious: The electoral map strongly favors the President, who will make use of that map to spread his opponent out as much as possible.

Sorry . . . the cop's on the beat, and it ain't Officer Barbrady.

Lessee . . . going back through the presidents since Eisenhower . . . how many of them essentially fell straightaway from broad public interaction for 3+ years, after leaving office -- without passing away shortly after leaving Washington, and/or sliding headlong into their dotage?

    Besides Fredo?

    Nixon.

And compared to W, Nixon regained greater visibility, sooner.

One can tell quite a few stories like this, if one really wanted to embarrass a lot of people deserving of embarassment . . . but it wouldn't be nice.

It won't discourage the dedicated, however. And Mitt's an appropriate target.

"Of course, you deserved to fail . . . if you couldn't drum up twenty dimes among friends and relatives, you're obviously a worthless, deadbeat insect!"

Some people on this board would defend this as a rational thought. Then again some people here would swallow anything if it came from the "right" sources.

Economies that grow too fast are often seen as illusory. This happened in the United States ("irrational exuberance"). This was predicted for years in China to the point that many learned observers believe they engineered a slowdown.

    Good try, though.

    Defend what? It's a headline.

What does the article actually say?
