Anyone know why his account says "Last active: Today"?

I never met him in person but I really enjoyed his posts, especially the Springsteen discussions. I found his droll humor very entertaining. It sounds like he was a true newspaperman, something becoming more rare by the day. Thoughts and prayers to his family and his friends, especially his good friends on SJ.

RIP and prayers for his friends and family.

One of my favorite exchanges ever on this board was something to this effect:

Spintned (that's how I pronounced it in my head): Something about sports
RS: You are completely wrong and here's why.
    SP: You don't know everything.
RS: I've always assumed I did, and if I'm wrong I'm too old to change my mind now
    SP: I know the feeling.

When I took on a suicidal job of trying to turn around a small paper, which involved advertising a sports editor opening here, it was Ron that hushed the SJ haters. The things he said about me were the highest professional compliments, and the resumes came flying in. It wouldn't have happened without his unsolicited and unexpected endorsement.

I never worked for him or alongside him, but I respected the he'll out of him, as we all did.

    Rest in peace, Ron.

This, from the Spring Training thread, just one week ago:

That was within the last week or so, wasn't it? I was thinking of that one today, too.

I've had trouble posting anything substantive on this thread. I knew Ron, but not very well. You didn't have to know Ron very well to know he was a sweetheart of a man. I think as Spnited, he gave off a much more grizzled vibe than you got just having a beer with him and talking about sports or Northern Jersey or anything else dear to his heart. He was certainly proof that when you spend a little time with someone, you see them differently on this message board than if you don't know the person behind the user name.

That's not to say that I liked Ron, and didn't like Spnited. Spnited was a constant presence; one of a small core of people who made this place so special for me. On here, he was the grizzled veteran / sage everyone has pointed out. Having never worked for a newspaper directly, I got a ton of insight from him about the business. It's always made me feel separate on here. He gave me a ton of needed insight as both Ron and Spnited.

I also loved the curmudgeonly Spnited act, something I never saw in Ron in person. He really did get annoyed when people who didn't know him well did the "older than Spnited" jokes. I felt like I had made it when he told me he was fine with me playing the "Spnited is so old" game. And I had a good time with it. The first time I met him, he showed me his New Jersey driver's license that didn't have a picture on it and was still somehow legal. I asked him if his social security number was 1.

The saddest thing is that he really wasn't that old.

Spnited could occasionally be a pain in the ass on here. He also had a great sense of perspective. He could be pissed off at someone at one moment, even tearing up a thread. But Spnited was Ron, and Ron wasn't a pissed-off kind of guy. That's why Spnited didn't hold grudges and let things go so easily on here. I could even see Ron's smiling face sometimes, when Spnited was telling someone they were an idiot. Cause Ron was the guy who would disagree with you (there was that honesty that others have pointed out), call you an idiot, wave his hand, smile, and then buy you a beer and be talking about something completely different a second later.

I was looking at Facebook and Ron Drogo popped up as a person I might know and asked if we wanted to be friends.

And now I'm looking at this thread and about to cry.

Edit: A couple of years ago, in Secret Santa, I got a package from someone in Jersey, and per Secret Santa rules, I didn't and still don't know who sent it.
I always assumed it was Spnited because I just assumed he was the only poster on here from Jersey. I know that isn't the case, but that's what I thought.
Until today, the source of Spnited's handle was a complete mystery but now it makes perfect sense.
