This obviously isn't the appropriate thread for it, but it's a conversation that SportsJournalists.com needs to have, in earnest. I can't get my father or father-in-law, both of them in self-inflicted poor health, to take care of themselves, listen to their doctors, etc., etc., for anything. My dad just either shuts down and stares straight ahead or gets pissy. And we have all either had co-workers eating, smoking, stressing, and drinking themselves to an early grave - or we are that co-worker ourselves.

But I admit: Sometimes, I have this complex where I feel like less than a man for taking care of myself. Hell, even in spnited's way-too-early death, there seems like there is some honor in doing it his way. And that includes smoking.

Anyway, sorry for the most inappropriate threadjack of all time.

But I don't think it IS inappropriate. Losing someone too young is exactly when we should ask these questions.

Seems the Saints came around to spnited's thinking, as they've reportedly terminated Shockey's contract today.

I didn't know Ron Drogo in person. I only knew spnited as an old guy who had a love-hate relationship with the Mets and yelled at me a lot for doing anything remotely unprofessional.
The latter always pissed me off, but in reading this thread it seems obvious his heart was in the right place. He'll be missed by others more than myself, but it's still a big loss for everyone.
    RIP, Ron.
