Crap. I needed that laugh on this thread.

I only knew him on here, so I hadn't even bothered to read this thread last night. I had a PM waiting for me when I signed on telling me it was spnited.

Gotta agree with BYH on this one. Damn.

RIP, spnited. You're going to be missed even by quite a few people who didn't have the good fortune to meet you in person.

The internet is so weird. It allows you to bond with people you'll never meet, for reasons you can't even really explain. Spnited and I had very limited personal interaction here. I didn't know him the way some of you did. Had no idea who he was in the real world. But since 2002, he's been a part of the daily dialog in my life, via this site. And from now until ... probably forever ... every time I hear someone call up a sports talk radio to ask about their fantasy team, I'll think to myself "No one gives a shit about your fantasy team, dickhead."

It's one of those weird things that makes us a strange little family, for all our disagreements and squabbles.

Godspeed, Ron. You were part of the main here at SportsJournalists.com, the continent, and today we are the less.

    No man is an island,
    Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
    A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
    Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
    Or of thine friend's were.
    Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.

    Therefore, send not to know
    For whom the bell tolls,
    It tolls for thee.

In Ron's honor, we'd be wise to remember spnited's tag:
"We are not the story. We are the story tellers."

Does anyone know if he was sick?

I always freak out when I hear of someone this young dying.

Look at the bright side Ron, at least you won't have to watch the Mets this season.

    Fuck.

    RIP

Just called the funeral home (Kimak Funeral Home, Carlstadt, N.J.). Told me that tentatively the visitation is tomorrow, funeral is Wednesday. Times not yet determined. Family was there as we were speaking. No info yet on memorial requests.

The Mets? He'll see every game in heaven. Or hell. Wish he were here to tell us which that would be.

Since it's been made clear that Ron and spnited are one in the same, should the title of the thread be changed?

A lot of people who know spnited, but not Ron, might not click on the thread.

There were times he rubbed me the wrong way on here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Still, over time, in between the jabs about fly-over country, etc., I came to appreciate his insight. Never met him, didn't know him personally, but I grew to believe he was, as someone mentioned, the curmudgeon with the heart of gold. And he and I were on the same wavelength about fantasy baseball and the sabreheads. Funny how if you interact enough you find common ground. RIP, indeed. This place is definitely diminished with his passing.

    RIP, Ron.

    Sorry this won't be happening:

From a Spnited post Feb. 15:

I intend to see every freaking nickel of the more than $200,000 I and my employers have contributed to MY Social Secuirty retirement account over the past 45+ years.
Social Security is not an entitlement. It is MY FUCKING MONEY.

I had the good luck to meet Ron (and many other good people) in Toronto. It was one of the best trips of my life, and I'm sure I'll be digging out the pictures tonight.

Ron was a great guy, and one of the icons here. I was looking forward to seeing him again this summer in Buffalo.

    RIP buddy.
