Not what I said. Of course, I've never seen him post anything sexist or homophobic on here, either. He can defend himself, if he wants to. I just think it'd be a lot easier on all parties to not take him too seriously, especially with posts like that one.

That's just me, though.

You haven't been around enough to see the sexist posts. He's infamous for them. And most of us don't take him seriously.

Looks like I've been around longer than you. But I digress. If you don't take him seriously, what's the deal? He states his opinion under his real name. Maybe you agree with it, maybe you don't...but that's what message boards are for, right? Stating opinions?

If he was stating the same things under "sportswriter321" would anyone give anything he posts a second thought? I think he gets blasted on this board sometimes just because he is Jason Whitlock and everyone knows it.

But like I said, he can defend himself if he wants.

I find it amusing that people think looks shouldn't matter, even in broadcast journalism.

Maybe in a perfect world they wouldn't, but guess what?

The board isn't the only place rampant with double standards. Try the newsrooms. Someone had an excellent post about cutting the supervisor some slack. If you want someone who is just going to bend over backward to make everyone happy (which is impossible anyway), you're likely going to have a crappy product and little to no conflict resolution.

I say this from the miserable experience of working with someone whose strategy was just that. The only time mistakes were pointed out was either in a performance review or at the behest of a higher supervisor. This meant the same problems went on and on and on. Plus, the people who requested every holiday for their vacation time at the start of the year got what they wanted, and everyone else was stuck with the leftovers.

Until society progresses past sophomoric attitudes, people with looks who schmooze are going to get the benefit of the doubt. Don't like it? Then start trying to change some attitudes. But please don't jump on the pedestal 2 percent of the time and then run back to the "cool" crowd the other 98 percent of the time. That's just lame and hypocritical.

I can't believe I missed this thread.

To those who say they just don't take whitlock seriously, ....you should, because he just writes what everyone else thinks.  He put 'journalist' in quotes? This board does that 100 times a day when talking about TV people--magnify that 1000 times and apply it to the real world. You think he's condescending to women? Get off your high horses and read any thread on this board that discusses women in the business. Every discussion leads to physical appearance--especially when the discussion is about TV.  Come to think of it, we rarely talk about print women...not hot enough, I guess. Again, that's just this board....a tiny microcosm compared to the rest of the world, where the opinion is even more biased and less informed.

As for Lugnuts' boss---'oh well' is all we really have, isn't it, Luggie?  We fight our own battles in the sports world...if we look too good, we're all about looks...if we don't look good enough, we don't have a job.  But we must pretend that looks aren't a factor in our success, because that wouldn't be professional...although if we're too professional (ie, raising hell when people talk about our tits on the air) then we're bitches. Oh well.
