Jason, you may disagree, but I think that was one of the, if not THE, finest piece you've ever written. Well done. You said everything what every Royals fan thinks but can't quite put into words.

it's one of the best things i've written about the royals...i've been laying in the weeds for (gl)ass for some time. column came real easy. wrote it at 5 in the morning. only took 90 minutes. usually a high-end non-deadline column takes me at least 3 hours to write...i went to bed dreaming about flaming glass.

Re: Royals revoke credentials - UPDATED

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals, responding to a rising tide of criticism, said Thursday the credentials of two radio reporters were revoked because of “decorum” and not because they asked difficult questions. <cm-bd>¶
“It is being widely reported that the Kansas City Royals revoked the 2006 season credentials of two radio reporters last week for asking tough questions. The Royals have never stated this as fact,” said an unsigned blog on the team Web site. <cm-bd>¶
“The credentials were not revoked because someone asked tough questions — we get those every day — but for reasons of decorum. The tone, the abruptness, and the forcefulness of which their questions and added commentary were presented, offended many at the news conference.” <cm-bd>¶
The credentials of Bob Fescoe of WHB and Rhonda Moss of KCSP were yanked last Friday, the day after a news conference introducing Dayton Moore as the Royals’ new general manager. <cm-bd>¶
Until Thursday, when they addressed the action as the first entry on a new blog, Royals officials had refused any public comment, which probably helped fuel what has become for the team a public relations disaster. <cm-bd>¶
Reporters, columnists and news agencies around the nation rushed to the defense of Fescoe and Moss, turning them into virtual celebrities. Criticism of the Royals and owner David Glass for expelling reporters for asking unpleasant questions exploded. <cm-bd>¶
The Kansas City Press Club and The Kansas City Star were only two organizations asking the Royals to reinstate the two. <cm-bd>¶
The Society of Professional Journalists said in a letter to Glass and baseball commissioner Bud Selig that revoking the credentials “smacks of an attempt to control the message and to slap the hands of those who do not play along to your specifications.” <cm-bd>¶
A letter to the Royals from the Kansas City Press Club chided, “The game played at Kauffman Stadium is hardball, not softball, after all.” <cm-bd>¶
Fescoe and Moss, who work for competing stations and have reputations for being blunt and aggressive, began the news conference by grilling Glass on his handling of the firing of former general manager Allard Baird. <cm-bd>¶
Moore was virtually ignored for the first part of the news conference as Glass defended his action, telling Moss at one point that her assessment was “completely wrong.” <cm-bd>¶
The tone for the rest of the news conference was tense and uncomfortable for everyone, including other reporters. <cm-bd>¶
“The Royals found that behavior to be particularly disruptive of the introduction of the club’s new general manager, the intended purpose of the meeting,” the blog said. <cm-bd>¶
A spokesman for the Royals, Aaron Babcock, told The Associated Press that the credentials would not be reinstated this year. <cm-bd>¶

    Offended many??
I'm sure the many consisted of Royals' flukies, who looked appropriately shocked and dismayed at their meal ticket having to answer questions....

The sandbags around the bunker are being piled deeper...

If the powers that be at each place had any stones, they'd stop covering their games all together; TV, Radio and print -- which could be a good thing....

Wow, as if they could make themselves look like bigger idiots, they actually managed to do it!

Like Whitlock said in his first column about this, all the Glasses had to say was, "I understand this is a chance to ask us about Baird, but I'd like the spotlight to be on Moore today. After this conference, I'll address those questions, but in the meantime the floor is Mr. Moore's."

Of course, that kind of decorum (to use a buzzword) is apparently foreign to a Wal-Mart exec.

    whatta buncha douchebags

and this will be funny to just a couple of people -- but to them it will be really funny -- the tone? what do they want me to do, get on my knees and blow them?

(god, i hope a few of the people who actually get that joke see it)

Jason, good job working the corners. Is that a term a white boy can use? Does that refer to street corners or a pitcher working the corners of the plate?
Why not write that column for the Star?
You may be the only columnist whose ego matches his waist line.
Maybe you'll sweat off a few lbs in Miami.
Does the tone of this post reflect the tone of questions/comments that got those two "journalists" creds yanked?

I'm a Royals fan. I've been offended on a daily basis for 10 years.

Anybody else consider it particularly pathetic that the Royals would choose to distribute this message through an anonymous blog on the club's Web site?

    not pathetic, just typical...
Pathetic would be a false name

Pathetic? Yes. Surprising? No. It is amazing that this is the same organization that once strived for excellence [anyone remember the Royals' 'Baseball Academy'?]. But that was a long, long time ago.

And also, if you really have a problem with a specific reporter [and I've seen this done], the media relations director should take him/her aside and talk it out. Revoking credentials never should be the first club out of the bag.
