  1. No. They're too fair-weather to be over the top. :)

Common courtesy? Doesn't exist at sports bars. You root your team on. If the person next to you doesn't like it, that's their problem, they can move across the bar somewhere else.

Great point. I don't know why that didn't hit me when I wrote this. They are incredibly bandwagon.

Unless you're in a mosh pit or federal prison, common courtesy applies. Rooting for your team is one thing, but taunting other teams' fans and just being plain obnoxious is bad form, and could (and should) have serious ramifications. In that regard, the worst of the bad fans root for the Eagles.

As for Steelers fans, I thought cheering a 2-yard gain when you're down 20 points in the fourth quarter was unique to the sports bar I frequent. Guess not.

  5. At my current bar, Steelers fans get the big screen in the back. You can hear them at the front entrance (at least 150 feet away), and sometimes outside. No other fans even come close to that decibel level. Like I said, cheering (even loud) is fine. I do it. We all do it. But every play? Seriously? What is it the rest of us are missing?

EDIT: And in case you think it's personal with me -- The team I root for has no historical rivalry with either the Steelers or Cowboys.

God, is that true. They are freaking scary m-f'ers. They give you that cold, Tom Cruise-intensity stare if you root against their team. Creepy stuff.

Trust me, I didn't read too much into your post. I can see where outsiders might see that and question what we're thinking. It's a different breed of fan, for sure. Much more passionate than the average fan, for better or for worse.

While you might find that superfan amongst a few teams at a sports bar, the one that gets rowdy and loud, Steelers fans are almost all like that. The ones that are are shunned and excommunicated from the herd.

Exactly, though I'm not quite that bad. I only get really loud when something bad happens. Maybe it's because I don't get drunk when I watch football.

Some of you people should get a load of a crowd inside Heinz Field. You think the fans at the bar are bad....

Hell, I know we're talking pro football here, but around these parts, any/all Georgia Bulldogs happenings are usually met with a lot of barking. Talk about annoying!

ESPN's talking heads are picking against the Jets. Good.

Tom Brady and the Pats at home in January ... I'm fairly certain everyone is picking against the Jets.
