Never heard a worse beat in my life. Quads cracked by runner-runner? Yikes.

Exactly. The 80-20 had the whole way.

I've never been much at figuring odds, but I'd love to see what the odds are of quads and a straight flush hitting on the same hand. I'll play for weeks and never see either. I cannot recall the last straight flush I saw.

Poker truly is a sick game.

Norm was chip leader at 40K until having aces cracked by QJ. He is busted when opponent hits his four-outer on turn for broadway straight.

Wil Wheaton went out in style

Well There Is a Will... There Was a Will
The blinds are $50 and $100. Wil “Star Trek” Wheaton is in middle position and he makes it $300 to go. It’s folded around to the small blind who calls. The big blind folds.

    Pot: $700

    Flop: Kc, Qd, 10s

The small blind checks. Wil bets $500. The small blind calls.

    Pot: $1700

    Turn: 3s

The small blind checks. Wil bets $1000. The small blind calls.

    Pot: $3700

    River: 8c

The small blind checks. Wil bets $3000. The small blind looks at Wil’s chips—Wil’s got about $5000 left, the small blind has about $25,000—and check-raises Wil all-in.

    Wil tanks.

    Wil thinks.

“I can’t figure out what you have,” he says. He looks at the money in the pot: $14,700. The $5000 he’s got isn’t looking so good. “But I think I can’t fold, there’s too much out there.” He throws out his $5000 and flips up Kh, Jh for top pair, second kicker, and the missed open-ended straight.

The small blind (Rob Williams from Toronto Canada) flips up 8d, 8s for a rivered set.

    Wil wasn’t happy: “Sonofamother####ing bitch! ###damnit you lucky ####ing—nice ####ing catch.”

The floor came over and told him he had a ten minute penalty for dropping the F-bomb. “What ####ing ten minute penalty—he got a ####ing set on the river and I’m ####ing out. Mother####er!”

Hardest beat? Not even a bad beat. If you are behind when you put all your chips in the middle, you deserve to lose.

Sure. But when you flop quads ... and get laid out by runner-runner straight flush ... well, maybe not a bad beat by definition, but a bitch of a loss, for sure.

We're all going to get tired if we mention every significant player who's eliminated over 10 days, but this one really sucks:

    Dan Harrington, eliminated.

    :'(

I gotta stop reading all this WSOP stuff. I'm THIS close to driving to my local cardroom, but it's almost midnight and a 45-minute drive away. DAMN YOU, WSOP.

I'm not good enough to make plays ...

...like this (he had Q-8 and raised).

...like this (the 3 seat had third-best pair and called $3500)

...like this (again, to re-raise with 9's with a possible set and two overs on board ... and, by the way, to call a big raise with bottom pair and inside straight draw)

Ha ha, Grinder, I can't stand you.

By the way, is anyone else THISCLOSE to firing up the ol' online poker games?

You will be happy to know the Grinder is out.

But you might be surprised to know that Anna Benson made it through Day 1 with about 30K.
