And fair enough ... should he be head-and-shoulders over everyone else in the O the way Crosby was in the Q in his last of junior, the NHL should give serious consideration to waiving the eligibility date in Tavares' case.

I realize the eligibility date isn't an arbitrary thing picked out of thin air but to hold a kid of special talent back just because of five days doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

I think you're right. The League needs to look at his body of work in the 'O' before making a decision.

They do, however, have to make it clear it would be a one-time thing.

    For Tavares only?

Not a bad list. A little surprised he didn't include Suter's crosscheck on Gretzky ... but which one would you leave off?

Yes, well ... OK ... maybe I mis-wrote ... that it should be under consideration of only very special cases and within a certain time frame of the eligibility date.

    Ah, okay.

If it were me, I think I would have done something like this:

9: Gary Suter's cross-check on Paul Kariya and Gary Suter's crosscheck on Wayne Gretzky.

That might have been a good idea. Both were pretty nasty. Although I would say the Kariya one was more significant to hockey matters on a global scale.

The new unis are done ...

According to sources in the B’s dressing room, Reebok has been unable to correct problems with the new jerseys introduced this season across the NHL and will replace them at the company’s expense with new uniforms made of the old materials.

Players have complained since training camp that the new jerseys, which are supposed to be lighter and allow sweat to evaporate out through the shirts, have instead trapped water inside and gotten heavier. . . .

Nigel Dawes potted an even-strength goal 57 seconds into the Devils-Rangers game at MSG tonight. Rangers 1, Devs 0, almost 30 minutes in.

Lightning gave away a goal through bad communication, but still lead 2-1, Brad Richards had a PPG.
