    JC,

Didn't Lecavalier sign a four-year, $28 million contract after they won the Stanley Cup? That's what my notes say, unless I forgot something somewhere.

    I'll check.

Lecavalier was signed to that contract after the lockout ended, not after the Stanley Cup. JC is correct, he is not a UFA until the summer of 2009.

However, he does not have a no-trade clause -- as Richards and St. Louis do. That doesn't mean I expect Feaster to deal him.

If the Lightning are going to turn this around, Brad Richards needs to get going on the defensive end. He's tied for the team lead with 13 points, but he's an atrocious -10 right now, as is Brad Luckowich. They're tied for second-worst +/- in the league.

I wonder which "lucky" defenseman gets to be paired with Sandis Ozolinsh, who just got signed by the Sharks? Hockey aside, though, I hope he's got his life back together.</a>

I've got to say that's pretty surprising, I always thought of Richards as a solid two-way forward.

I'm sure he would be, but could he survive the pressure?

Devils 3-2 over the Leafs. John Madden's shortie tally was awesome.

Watched NHL Network's Classic Series, this time the Pens' first Cup win with the 1991 series against the North Stars. Best moment was the brief moment the camera showed a guy in the stands with this sign: "Elvis boinked Cinderella!"

    John Tavares update:

HC & I were at the Brampton Battalion/Oshawa Generals game tonight (we're season ticket holders).

Gens beat the Troops 6-3 and Tavares was limited (!) to two assists while his teammate Bret MacLean had four goals.

Tavares was invisible most of the night although some of his shifts seemed to be about five minutes.

The kid has eyes in the back of his head. He seems to know where everyone is on the ice at any given moment.

It was tied 3-3 after two and when Oshawa scored the go ahead goal, Brampton, uh, kinda went brain dead.

Attendance (3500 and change) was about 1500 higher than the average for the first 8 games.

Before the Bolts won the Cup, I doubt it. Now, I don't think it would be a problem.

Cup or not, there's a big difference to playing hockey in Tampa, and being a francophone playing in Montreal where I am sure he would be hailed as the Franchise's savior. Just look at what Saku as a finnish captain has had to put up with in the past couple of weeks, just because he errantly forgot to speak in french — his third language — when announcing the lineup on opening night. It's reasons like this I'm sure Briere didn't even consider going home when he was a UFA.
