Running 2007 NHL regular season thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by hockeybeat, Sep 26, 2007.

  1. What a pathetic display of support at a new arena and winning franchise for those in the New Jersey-New York area tonight as the Pittsburgh Penguins loaded with mega-stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin played against the Devils in a terribly empty arena.

The NHL stayed in New Jersey because why?

Damien Cox tells those pathetic Ottawa fans to STFU and stop e-mailing him. Pretty funny---and he's right.

But while everything Eugene Melnyk touches turns to gold, the Leafs are portrayed as the daft uncle down the road who can't read or write, the idiot team that can't skate straight.

Now, we media types in the GTA have hammered the locals early and often this season, but at a certain point the burgeoning arrogance of the hockey faithful in Bytown – many of whom have clearly mastered email – starts to grate.

One might think they'd wait until the first Stanley Cup banner goes up at the place-your-corporate-name-here rink before losing their humble demeanour, but that's not the case.

Would love to see his in-box today.

Hardcore CFL fans are the worst. Their emails to anyone who writes about the NFL arrival in Toronto are off-the-charts insane.

I am in a media-league hockey pool. Team salary cap is $288. You can add $5 to anyone's contract to extend them an extra year, or you have to throw them back in the auction bin. I finished in the money last season, but my team is crap this year, mainly because Dominik Hasek is hurt and Chris Mason has been brutal.

This morning, I traded Vincent Lecavalier ($37) and Jason Spezza ($35) for Sam Gagner ($3), Erik Johnson ($6) and -- ta da! -- Johnathan Toews ($5).

Best pickup in my pools, and I have several of them was getting Pascal Leclaire. The former Halifax Moosehead has gotten his crap together and it is paying off in dividends, meaning more cha-ching for me.

I quickly picked up Toews and Kane in another one and you cannot believe the trade offers I am getting for them.

Mason in your pool? Oh my damn!

Rehab to play in Peoria tonight. The Blues expect him back by the weekend. I think the big club is off until then.
