What a pathetic display of support at a new arena and winning franchise for those in the New Jersey-New York area tonight as the Pittsburgh Penguins loaded with mega-stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin played against the Devils in a terribly empty arena.

The NHL stayed in New Jersey because why?

But while everything Eugene Melnyk touches turns to gold, the Leafs are portrayed as the daft uncle down the road who can't read or write, the idiot team that can't skate straight.

Now, we media types in the GTA have hammered the locals early and often this season, but at a certain point the burgeoning arrogance of the hockey faithful in Bytown – many of whom have clearly mastered email – starts to grate.

One might think they'd wait until the first Stanley Cup banner goes up at the place-your-corporate-name-here rink before losing their humble demeanour, but that's not the case.

Best pickup in my pools, and I have several of them was getting Pascal Leclaire. The former Halifax Moosehead has gotten his crap together and it is paying off in dividends, meaning more cha-ching for me.

I quickly picked up Toews and Kane in another one and you cannot believe the trade offers I am getting for them.
