The point is, Kaberle IS a defensive d-man and is one of the best in the league in terms of breaking out of his zone.

McCabe is going to be the whipping boy again for all the Leafs' ineptitude.

In my mind, Kaberle is a top-ten all around defenseman. Good in his own end, can pass the puck, can rush the puck and can shoot it, quarterback the PP and responsible enough for the PK.

I think McCabe needs to be partnered with someone who rarely strays over the red line.

Looking forward to a little post-Thanksgiving hockey on Friday with the Ducks hosting the Coyotes.

Lundqvist played an amazing game tonight, robbed the Lightning frequently.

Holmqvist did a nice job for the Bolts, except for maybe the second goal, but played well enough to win but for the guy at the other end of the ice.

  5. Pittsburgh Head Coach Michel Therrien is feeling the heat. He looks like a coach who knows his job security is in jeopardy.

Tonight's post-game scrum, he answered two questions by saying "its still early in the season"

Recchi is doing his usual bs going behind the coaches and whining to press and Shero/Lemieux about the healthy scratch.

Only if you're a Flyers fan. Six goals? In Raleigh?

    Ugh ...

The Canes turned the puck over way too many times tonight and gave Briere way too much open ice (he had a hat trick). Biron made some terrific glove saves and played a nice game even though he gave up three goals. This clearly wasn't one of Ward's better games and his own give-away led to one goal. Carolina really has been mediocre the last few games and needs to come out of the funk.

Fun to go to the game. The result? Not so much.

I know, ondeadline. I didn't get the "joy" of watching it, but Chuck Kaiton wasn't exactly expounding the Whalercanes' virtues. Complete third-period meltdown ...

The turning point is when Carolina had a 5-on-3 power play with a chance for the tying goal and couldn't get it done.

    Who scored for the Rangers?

EDIT: Nevermind. A quick glance-a-roo at Foxsports.com shows that the red-white-and blue clad goal scorers were Fedor Tyutin and Colton Orr. In a bit of foreshadowing, during an intermission of a recent Ranger game, a MSG reporter interviewed Orr and told the Blueshirts' muscle that Jaromir Jagr said he was the most skilled tough guy in the league.

Orr's goal was a real softie.

Glen Hanlon gets canned in Washington ...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3123386&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Glen Hanlon was fired as coach of the NHL-worst Washington Capitals on Thursday, with the team off to its slowest start in 26 years.

Hanlon, in his fourth season at the helm, was told of the decision a day after loud boos and chants of "Fire Hanlon!" echoed through the arena during a 5-1 home loss to the Atlanta Thrashers, Washington's fifth consecutive defeat.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by Bruce Boudreau, the coach of the Hershey Bears, Washington's American Hockey League affiliate.

Boudreau was to run the Capitals' practice Thursday morning, then make his NHL coaching debut Friday at Philadelphia.

Boudreau, who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, is familiar with several of the Capitals' players, having coached seven current members of the roster at Hershey, which he led to the 2006 Calder Cup title.
