Hey ondeadline ... think one or both of us could play defense for the Whalercanes?

Carolina's getting flogged again. Third straight game in which the Whalercanes have given up five or more goals. Since both Leighton and Ward have been in net, how much longer will critics try to pin this on the goaltenders?

A pretty good effort in the first period by Ward to withstand an onslaught that could have very easily been 5-0. But he can only withstand so much. The blue line does suck.

The Caps and Oilers are about to go to the 10th shooters in the shootout.

Going to the 12th shooters in the Caps-Oilers shootout and STILL no goals.

Good ... you saw what I have. Toronto wasn't all Leighton's fault even though he was pulled after two periods. And neither he nor Cam can continue to withstand this many shots.

Kolzig stops Souray in the 12th round and the Caps win after a goal from Matt Bradley.

That shootout was ridiculous. It seemed like every guy shot it right at Kolzig/Roloson.

So it wasn't so much good goaltending as it was lack of scoring talent? Yikes ...

I think The Oilers went 5-hole five shooters in a row. The worst was Stoll's stick breaking. Sam Gagner needs a new move. Think they've figured it out.

Couldn't agree more with the bulk of you regarding Neids/Conks. I would like to add, however, I am very happy to see Conklin land on his feet. I always thought he got the bums rush in Edmonton. Good to see him get a legit chance to prove himself in the league.

I knew you would show up eventually. :)

Conklin has always been a career minor leaguer/ backup but I share your sentiment.

If he can take the Penguins deep into the playoffs, he will have resurrected his career.

    Good.

The Big Head thinks the Flames are gunning for next year.

One thing he's right on ... we are trade starved. There seems to be a lot less to talk about -- from actual trades to even rumours.

Hell, just look at the recap of trades this season. Definitely slim pickin's and there's just more than a month to go.
