The difference is I've known Christensen since he was 15. We would both feel comfortable with me calling him Crush to his face.

You said anyone who doesn't know Malkin's nickname 'Gino' isn't really a hockey fan. There's no backing your way out of that one, sorry. It was a condescending thing to say and I'd be willing to bet that most of the hockey fans outside of the little pocket of Pittsburgh and a few surrounding states don't know -- or give a flying fuck -- what his nickname is.

I've never heard of Malkin referred to as Gino.

And even if I had, I would never use it any more than I'd refer to Andrew Raycroft as "Razor".

    It's slightly looserfanboyish IMO.

Well, that's fairly convincing, dammit. I think the Hawks will win a few more than they lose between here and season's end, but no friggin' way will they win twice as much as they lose.

    WI,

The rebirth of the Chicago franchise is one of the great hockey stories of the year.

We have a local interest since Mimico's own David Bolland was drafted by Chicago two years ago --he keeps bouncing back between the AHL team and the Hawks.

Judging from the stuff typewriter hill posts, I'm guessing he's no fanboy. He knows the Penguins real well, and everyone in that organization refers to Malkin as Geno.

I just did an interview on a Pittsburgh station, and they refer to him as Geno, too. Hardly a big deal.

Wish Magnuson could have lived to see this season. Bill Reay, too.

Off topic, I wish that the NHL would either scrap standings points altogether or start awarding only one point for an OT win and zero for an OT loss. I hate that teams that have to go to OT to win get just as many points as a team that gets the job done in regulation. And I hate teams getting a point for a loss, even if it is an OT loss. I know we've had this discussion before...

I would love it the league went to just wins and losses. That way you don't have to figure out games in hand to determine if one team really is ahead of another.

I don't disagree with your point, Elliott. What I do disagree with is saying anyone who doesn't know Malkin's nickname isn't a hockey fan.

    That's just not true.

    Absolutely agree.

I think Flash's point--well taken--is that outside Pittsburgh 99.9% of most hockey fans would have heard him referred to as Geno. That's all.

Unsurprisingly, Crosby is now officially on injured reserve.
