Think forward to this off-season: You're an unemployed hockey executive. Do YOU want the Maple Leafs' GM job? I guess there's always the sucker who will overlook the dysfunction for the sake of being able to call himself Toronto's GM, but why would any guy in his right mind want this job?

Without question. Somebody will have themselves convinced they're the right guy to save the organization. You don't get very far in the professional sports world -- from player to management -- without confidence and a soupcon of bravado!

Depends if you have to report to Peddie or your insist on a Colangelo situation where you have total control over the Leafs.

If you geth the latter, then you're the GM of the most high profile hockey team in the world. Not a bad gig.

True, but Peddie doesn't seem willing to entertain that thought with the Leafs. At least he hasn't until now. Maybe that will change with this next search.

Now Leafs Lunch is talking about Maurice's future. Fletcher says Maurice is the coach through the end of the season, but the hype-creating honks are saying he could be gone. I happen to think Maurice is a great choice for that team -- he just has shitty players and (until 45 minutes ago) a GM who screwed up some contracts.

Above all, though, is the situation created by Peddie. It won't change unless he does.

It's now officially official. Ferguson's out.

I don't normally wish Starman Justice on anyone, but I think there's a case to be made for drawing and quartering Richard Peddie, feeding his balls to the squirrels in Queen's Park and sticking his head on a pole outside the Air Canada Centre.

A douchebag of the highest order. The epitome of a gutless puke.

    From Peddie:

"The decision has been made that John will not be receiving a new contract at the end of this year, and it's in the best interests of the Leafs and of John to begin the transition immediately."

    Transition! Jesus.

Why would Peddie change? He's the head of the Leafs and has the full support of the board because he is, amongst other things, a real-estate whizz. He makes truckloads of money for MLSE.

The only way it will change is if Tannenbaum sticks his nose in this and insists that the next person be VP and GM of Hockey Operations, reporting directly to him and the board, cutting Peddie entirely out of the loop.

I still can't get the thought out of my head that some how some way Brian Burke ends up getting the job, with the same authority that Colangelo has.
It's a perfect fit, Burke and his ego and the TO media. Man that would be entertaining.
Anaheim is little to low profile for Mr. Burke.

Burke would never agree to the Toronto situation as it stands now. Get Peddie out of there, give him complete control and yeah, I think he'd be all over it.

I totally agree, that is what I meant by the Colangelo deal.
Imagine turning around the #1 hockey market in the world, that'd be a tough job to turn down if you have even 1 ounce of ego

What does Burke's weigh in at? 1 ton?
