Harry Howell's number isn't retired and Giacomin's is?

    Wow.

Leafs don't retire numbers. They just "honour" the players.

Those guys at MLSE are as usless as a eunuch at a gangbang.

Nothing wrong with a little bias. I would have thought Bathgate and Howell would have been retired by now

JC, I think Bathgate's number is already retired.

    That would make sense

Nope. Michael Rozsival wears No. 3.

Larry Brooks had a great column about the Rangers' failing to recognize its history. http://www.nypost.com/seven/01202008/sports/rangers/lone_rangers_588090.htm

Here are some of the great Rangers who don't have their numbers retired: Ron Greschner, Howell, Bathgate, Emile Francis, Gump Worsley, Bill Cook, Ching Johnson, Art Coulter, Bryan Hextall, Sr., Jean Ratelle, Brad Park.

Bathgate wore No. 9 when my dad was growing up.

Bathgate wore No. 9 when I was growing up. :)

BTW, I can't think of Bathgate without linking him to the single most important moment in the evolution of goalie equipment.

It was his shot that hit Jacques Plante in the face in a '59 game. After getting stitched up Plante came out wearing his goalie mask.

Brooks is right. There were so many great players prior to the 1993-94 season that deserve their due. But the organization is so focused on the one great year.

I'm hoping I'm still around in 2017. That'll be the 50th anniversary of the Leafs last Cup. I'm sure there'll be a parade.

Ah, you're in good shape. You'll be around for sure. Do you think the Leafs will dig up Punch for the festivities?
