The Caps have won, what, 755 in a row? And will probably not make the playoffs? Can Boudreau be coach of the year if they miss? Can Ovechkin be MVP?

    Ovechkin's the MVP. Hands down.

I think Boudreau is the Coach of the Year, although you can make an argument for Nashville's Barry Trotz.

One hell of a game in Pittsburgh. Pens lead Philly 3-2 after two. Both teams have gotten after each other.

All I know is they were 6-14-1 when he took over and they haven't lost in months. And still probably won't make the playoffs.

The NHL points system is a joke. What was wrong with the old way?

New way, old way, I don't know the difference.

Considering the way Ottawa is imploding and the way the Caps have gone since the Boudreau promotion, there's a real good chance that Ovie and the lads make the playoffs.

Old way, there were ties. Now, with the advent of the shootout, there are wins, losses, and overtime losses where everyone gets a point. I truly believe that the league needs to scrap that format. If a team wins a game in regulation or overtime, they earn two points. If they lose, nada.

I'd prefer 3 for a win 2 for ot win and one for ot loss, at least every game is worth the same amount of points.

Coaches and players are smart. Midway through last season, they recognized if their team was tied in the third period of a game, they could trap the hell out of the blueline and wait for the shootout. Most games are as dreadfully dull as they were prior to the lockout. The only difference is, the league is penalizing those players who think hockey is Greco-Roman wrestling on ice.

I think if the league goes to the two-zero point format, we'll see more teams playing offensive hockey instead of trapping the game to death.

I'd prefer just wins and losses myself.

Speaking of wins: Huge win in impressive fashion by my Canes tonight. :)

I'm just not sure the league needs to reward teams for losing in OT. This isn't mite hockey. NHL teams shouldn't receive a point because they lost in OT. To me, it's like a participation trophy. "Thanks for showing up tonight, lads. Even though you lost in OT or the shootout, you're still getting a point."
