Interseting article on the damage Boulerice has done before

One would think with Bobby Clarke no longer trying to re-create the Broad Street Bullies on an annual basis that Philly would try to be a different organization.

But Downie and Boulerice haven't help that transformation at all. At this rate, the Flyers will still get booed in Raleigh ... with Keith Primeau no longer in a Philly sweater.

I will give credit to the Flyers on this one. Holmgern hung around to see Kesler after the game to see if he was alright. Stevens has at no point tried to defend Boulerice's actions with the usual coach speak.
I doubt Boulerice plays another game for them

    Yeah, but Downie will.

So you'll forgive me if I'm less than impressed with Stevens' concern.

Hmmm ... quite the take from Long on the Bertuzzi incident as well. Sounds like Boulerice should just crawl into a hole and never come out.

I fuckin hate Downie but what would you like them to do with Downie?
Downie and Tootoo need to be held accountable by the players as well as the league

    That's a terrific article, JC.

This kind of thing won't stop until the NHL makes teams/coaches accountable. Fines for organizations, suspensions for coaches upon recurring incidents. Maybe even making fines count against the cap, or removing roster spots for the duration of a suspension.

The organization could slap a suspension on Downie. The league gave him 20 games? The Flyers could suspend him for another 20. They could send the message that they will not tolerate their players intentionally injuring others.

Or, they could just cut his cheap-shotting ass.

Class move by Holmgren following the Boulerice incident following the Vancouver game.

But IMO, if the Flyers organization wants to help both its image and the sport's as a whole, send Downie and Boulerice packing. Now.

In the latest Hockey News, Ken Campbell wrote a column on how teams are loading up on goons because "The Ducks punched their way to the Cup" and why it's a joke.

I enjoy a good hockey fight as much as the next person, but as long as it comes in the heat of the game. Instead, we get two nobodies like Boulerice and Colton Orr dropping the gloves because they're fourth-liners who need to justify their salaries. It's such garbage.

Campbell pointed out that these teams don't try to improve themselves; that they don't actively try to sign a Pronger or a Niedermayer. Instead, teams are loading up with George Parros.

George Parros. That's who teams need to go after! Not the Jagrs, Ovies, Crosbies, Nashes; Those guys? That's just silly! They can't stand up for themselves! We demand more Jody Shelley!

Ducks punched their way to the Cup? Jesus.

Chris Pronger is a cheap-shot artist, not a fighter. After that, the Ducks aren't exactly dirty.

How 'bout fourth-liners learn how to actually play? It tends to help the team more than becoming a trio of enforcers. Is that too simple?
