Ducks-Red Wings tonight. Could be fun.

What abilities Downie and Tootoo bring to the table are overshadowed by their seemingly compulsive need to be cheap-shotting thugs.

Leafs lead the Sabres 2-0 after two. Weird game.

So much for that. Buffalo scored two goals in twelve seconds to tie the game.

Versus aired a sickening graphic about how much the Leafs shell out for their defensemen and goaltending:

    • Vesa Toskala (G): $1.375 million
    • Andrew Raycroft (G): $2 million
    • Bryan McCabe (D): $5.75 million
    • Pavel Kubina (D): $5 million
    • Tomas Kaberle (D): $4.25 million
    • Hal Gill (D): $2.075 million.
TMLE is opening its coffers to the tune of $20.45 million for three goals, 11 assists, 14 points, a -3, 22 penalty minutes, a 2-3 record, goals against of 4.48 and 2.44, and save percentages of .878 and .918 before tonight.

And as I post this, Kilger scores. Leafs up 3-2.

    EDIT: Leafs now up 4-3.

EDIT Part Deux: Johen Hecht ties the game at four.

Did anyone get The Hockey News' Sixty Moments That Changed The Game magazine yet? Some really good stuff in there.

    Sabres win 5-4 in OT.

    Bad loss for the Leafs.

And the above noted $5 million man Pavel Kubina takes the penalty to give the Sabres a 4-on-3 power play they take advantage of at the death.

The only defensemen worth a damn in Toronto are Kaberle and Colavecchio (sp?). McCabe? Terrible in his own end. Kubina was a No. 3 in Tampa. Hal Gill? Utterly useless. The Leafs would be better served by installing a speed bump on the blueline instead of skating Gill for 15 minutes a game.

Edit: I'm an idiot. Meant to say that Kaberle was one of the Leafs' better defensemen.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The best d-man on the Leafs (and maybe one of the top 10 in the league) is Kaberle.

McCabe scored the OT winner for the Sabres--tried to clear a shot in the dying seconds and put it in his own net.

    I don't think so.

    Let me check:

Nope, not on the website. Might be on newsstands. Check it out if you get a chance.

In a completely unrelated story, the NHL PA nominates Paul Kelly to be its head. And somewhere in Manhattan, Gary Bettman, Bill Daly and the Board of Governors shudder in fear.

JR: I meant Kaberle, not Kubina, as one of the Leafs' best defensemen. Sorry. Brain fart on my end.

I know San Jose is the chic pick to win The Cup, but as long as Nabakov is in nets, the Sharks won't win anything that's meaningful.
