    That was awesome.

To answer my own question ...

J-S Giguere went 217 minutes, 54 seconds in the playoffs in 2003. It was the Western Conference final.

Giguere's scoreless streak is the fifth-longest in the postseason, and the longest since Montreal's Gerry McNeil went 218:42 in 1951.

Montreal's George Hainsworth had the longest playoff shutout streak, going 270:08 in 1930. Dave Kerr of the New York Rangers is second with a streak of 248:35 in 1937, and Detroit's Norm Smith is third (248:32 in 1936).

Will Detroit even bring Chelios back for this series? The defense is solid enough that he's not needed (except as an eye in the sky during games).

Brian Rafalski's defection from the Devils to the Red Wings has been quite a help in this series so far. He certainly knows how to play when his team gets a lead and proceeds to clamp down (although he's definitely on a team with more offensive firepower).

    Isn't it?

"I'm please to announce that Pavel Bure has been traded to the Florida Panthers" may be the funniest single line in any press conference .

The other one was good, too: "The next time I say his name it will be tell you guys where he's going."

I remember that. What a drama it was.

IIRC, that trade happened during the Team Canada tryouts for the world juniors and Mike Brown was moved from Florida to Vancouver. He never became much as a pro but, man, did it let me run some ink for a few weeks.

By the way, I forgot the link to JR's top 10 sound bytes ...

Brodeur shut out the Ducks in the opening two games of the Cup Finals in 2003 at home.

  8. JC - I'm pretty sure I said Pittsburgh is losing because of their play but thanks for trying.

Then why even mention the officials?

    And what was I trying?

In a series that eventually went 7 games.

Giguere shutout the Devils in Game 4, but Brodeur registered his third shutout of the Cup Final in Game 7.

    *GAG*

Can they disassociate themselves from this if Bret Hedican retires?
