I'd rather have another banner like the one in the arena that lists the year "2006." I think it had something to do with some sort of cup.

OK, here's something I never knew before.

If when the Red Wings win the Final, Dan Cleary will be the first Newfoundlander to have his name engraved on the the Cup.

Jesus, there'll be a helluva party.

    From Mirtle's blog.

    http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/05/rocks-drought-may-end.html

And The Globe and Mail had a look at the Cleary-related celebration taking place, which includes a "uniquely Newfoundland tradition":

... known as the shed party - where fans retreat to sheds decked out with television sets and barbecues, drink beer, eat moose and caribou and watch the game.

And I love this from the same Globe piece:

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080527.wcleary27/BNStory/National/?page=rss&id=RTGAM.20080527.wcleary27

And the town's mayor, Don Coombs, has placed a wager on the series with the mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality, which includes Cole Harbour - hometown of Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby.

Among several wagers, the loser has to wear the opposing team's jersey to their first council meeting after the playoffs.

"He said, 'The Crosby one's worth more than the Cleary one," Mr. Coombs recalled of his conversation with Mayor Peter Kelly. "I said, 'Not in Newfoundland.' "

hey pens fans on this board..Tell MICHELLE Therrien to stop whining like a little bitch..Obstruction..Please..The Wings do not obstruct..One of the goaltending interferance penalties may have been embellished, but just try and figure out why Princess Malkin (who has complained about being tired at age 21) is playing like garbage....and coachette should be happy that Roberts did not get a penalty for taking a shot to the head of a guy coming off concussion like symptoms....

Michel Therrien is actually a pretty tough guy. He was a body guard for a Quebec music star, Roch Voisin, before he was a coach. Agree he's a little whiny now, but he's down 2-0 and he's trying to get the next call. What do you expect?

Aye, but my days in Gander allowed me to become an adopted Newfie. I still have my papers.
