Considering where they were with under a minute remaining in regulation, any chance at all is remarkable.

Which brings up a question: has any team ever won the Cup after being so close to elimination--even in a game 6? Hell, has anyone tied a game 7 in the last minute? If the Pens pull this off, would it be one of the most unlikely comebacks in Stanley Cup history?

Opening face-offs never start on the hour. But the 20 minute delay is a little much.

Personally, I like the way CBC builds up--MacLean et al shut up and let the crowd noise take over leading up to the anthem. They don't cut to commercials for the anthem. Very nice

I dare anyone to find the goalie interference rule and show me how either of those wasn't a central-casting example of that penalty.

If Monday's game got a 4, I wouldn't be surprised if Wednesday's game gets a 6. That was some compelling, compelling television. I don't know who these guys are, I don't care, but a dude takes a puck to the face, a stick to the face, a goalie gets someone shoving his skate at him...I'm watching more. I don't know how the announcers are able to keep it up, let alone the players.

I can't quote the rule, but all they did was cut to the net -- sheesh! And on the Game 4 -- Hudler's game winner was a softie, but you'd figure a 5-on-3 for a minute and a half ewith two of the most talented offensive players in the game at your disposal would be money in the bank. It wasn't. Zetterberg and friends killed it. Don't know how you can say the Wings didn't deserve the win after that.

All this talk about who is deserving makes me want to give somebody credit! Perhaps ALL THE CREDIT IN THE WORLD! </clichepolice>

How about we give the Red Wings credit for winning three games and the Penguins credit for winning two?

    I know. Far too logical.

Goaltender interference is 69 in the NHL rule book and Simon's right. It's pretty clear

This rule is based on the premise
that an attacking player’s position, whether inside or outside the
crease, should not, by itself, determine whether a goal should be
allowed or disallowed. In other words, goals scored while attacking
players are standing in the crease may, in appropriate circumstances
be allowed. Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking
player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s
ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an
attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a
goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact
with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when
such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the
attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.
The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice
judgement of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or
    review.
For purposes of this rule, “contact,” whether incidental or
otherwise, shall mean any contact that is made between or among a
goalkeeper and attacking player(s), whether by means of a stick or
    any part of the body.
The overriding rationale of this rule is that a goalkeeper should
have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being
hindered by the actions of an attacking player. If an attacking player
enters the goal crease and, by his actions, impairs the goalkeeper’s
ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be
    disallowed.
If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by a
defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the
goalkeeper, such contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the
attacking player for purposes of this rule, provided the attacking player
has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

I think the key to tonight's game is Malkin. If he is as involved as he was in game five, the Pens win.
