I was really impressed with Missouri's offense. They can move the ball and shoot it. Of course, neither team can expect to repeat that performance in Columbia, but Missouri's defense, or lack thereof, better improve or Kansas might touch 100 again.

My favorite part was how it took a fucking video replay for the officials to call a flagrant foul on the Morris twin that delivered a forearm shiver to Safford's face for no apparent reason -- a good 20 feet behind the play.

At least they called it. Better late than never, right?

No, at most they called it. Your boys were in the bonus (for whatever good that's worth) before the first TV timeout. Meanwhile, it took a borderline ejection-able offense to get what I believe was KU's second team foul at the time.

The first half was evenly officiated... and evenly played. Then Mizzou somehow picked up seven fouls in the first 3:30 or so of the second half. It's not the sole reason KU pulled away, but it damn sure didn't hurt, either.

I don't want to turn this into a fanboy pissing match, but when you try to do the 40-minutes-of-hell thing and don't have the athletes Nolan Richardson did in the 90s, you run the risk of fouling a lot and/or giving up 100 points to good teams. That's what happened last night.

And if Morris pulls about 200 or 300 more cheap shots like that he'll be on the level of Jason Sutherland and Buck Grimm. ;) Isn't the Border War great?

    Yep.

And defense? Learn it, live it, love it.

Indeed. I do regret that in all the pre-tip blather about the rivalry literally being born of war, there wasn't equal t-shirt time given. All we saw were those lame-ass Joe College shirts, and nary a screenshot of this:

That's pretty funny, but I don't have a dog in this fight -- and don't want one.

MetroSports in KC did a pretty good documentary a couple years back about the origins of the rivalry. The student contributions on both sides were lame, but they were more than canceled out by the older characters on both sides.

It's hard to explain if you didn't grow up in either state or go to either school. But the vitriol is there... and very real.

Final free throw tally was 28-22 Kansas. That's not a huge disparity.

Meanwhile, the meltdown in Manhattan continues. Curtis Kelly might be finished as he is being investigated. Seems he may have failed a drug test. Putting the pieces together, his first three-game suspension at the start of the season may not have had to do with bad practices and Phrank Martin indicated, but tokin' some reefer.
