How you figure? Most of the mock brackets I saw before Mason lost, for what they're worth, have ODU has an 8 or 9 seed as an at-large. You think a loss to VCU in the CAA finals knocks ODU completely out?

The cynic in me wonders if ODU isn't better off losing and getting a 10 seed, though that's presuming they're in the 8-9 game if they win. Winnable first game, avoid a 1 seed in the second round. Plus it gets the almost alma mater in (probably a 12-13 seed) and gives Virginia four teams (Mason, ODU, VCU, VT or Richmond but not both)

    Strong, Jake, very strong.

Anyway, the Wahoos need to beat Miami to have an NIT shot. That might be enough, although following that with a win over the Heels on Friday would certainly lock them in.

    Yeah. I hear ya.

Question....who gets the higher seed...ODU or Mason now? If ODU wins tonight, it might be them. Although, I don't see either getting a seed any higher than 8 at this point, even if ODU wins tonight. If ODU wins tonight and both them and Mason are in 8-9 games, Tom Yeager's head might explode.

Edit: I've seen two brackets today (NBC Sports and Prisbell at the WaPo) who have both Mason and ODU in the 8-9 slots.

Bubble trouble in the Big East? Marquette's only 18-13. Nova's lost 10 of its last 15. Might a first-round loss doom either of them?
Are Zaga and St. Mary's safe, having both advanced to the WCC final?
How about Cleveland State, after Butler won the Horizon semi? I have to think that given its noncon slate, Butler's in, albeit as a double-digit seed.

I'm guessing Mason falls to eight, though it could bump back up depending on the big conference tourney results. ODU is probably an 8-9 team, though it could fall to 10 with a loss tonight. Can't imagine ODU seeded higher than Mason, though effectively the 8s and 9s are even anyway.

Does VCU have an argument with a close loss to ODU tonight? Their RPI was 59 as of Sunday morning, so that doesn't factor in the win against then-23rd Mason. They also have wins against Old Dominion (road), UCLA (neutral) and Wichita State (road), along with competive losses to Tennessee (neutral) and UAB (road). But they really crapped the bed down the stretch and have some real stinkbombs of losses (South Florida, Georgia State, Northeastern), so probably not.

New Bracketology drops Mason to 8 and keeps ODU at 9. VCU isn't in the first eight out: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

Marquette is in danger. Villanova did enough before their recent run to ensure their inclusion (and it helps that they're in the Big East, where it's almost impossible to have a bad loss). Gonzaga is in better shape than St. Mary's, which a) doesn't have much of a signature win outside the season opener against a St. John's team that clearly is much better now than then, and b) has struggled down the stretch. Cleveland State is out. Butler sweats until the end if they lose to UWM.

It wouldn't surprise me if ODU gets a higher seed than Mason, assuming they win tonight. Not at all. It'd be legit, too. I can see Mason even dropping to a 10 depending on what else happens around the country this week with ODU (if it wins tonight) as an 8 or 9.

Smart money is both in the 8-9 slots, though.

They've been a solid 7-8 team (some brackets in that Bracket Matrix thingy had them as a 6) for a while now. Losing to VCU in a de facto road game won't hurt that much, especially if the Rams win tonight.

It wouldn't be out of the question for the CAA to have five teams in the NCAA or NIT, figuring VCU is a NIT lock and Drexel has a good shot. Hofstra and JMU are bubble teams, though I think losing to William and Mary knocks the Dukes down to CBI/CIT level.

They just had breaking news on sports center that Pat Knight was kicked (see what I did there ;) ) to the curb at Texas Tech.

Yeah. The good thing is this year I don't have to worry about making plans for the NCAAs like 2006. Unless they end up in DC, which I just can't see happening. Looking back, I think it cost me roughly $84736736 to follow Mason around five years ago.

They and/or ODU could end up in Charlotte, which would be a feasable weekend (but probably one that'd be impossible to get tickets to if both Duke and UNC were sent there)
