Apparently they were paid to work just the first 39:55 of the game. It's not like the St. John's player turned the ball over once... he did it three times. All before the game was over.

That performance was nothing short of shameful.

Those three were bad the entire game but the last play takes the cake. Higgins and Burr should retire. They are consistently bad yet everyone says how great they are.

And we've got OT in the NEC.

The refs in the St. John's game were the Bizarro version of the officials in the 1972 gold medal game. That game was ending today god damn it, and they were getting out of there, no matter what was actually happening on the court.

    Fixed.

Seriously, that shit was the stuff of gambling investigations. What was the line? What was the over-under?

Elsewhere, I'm watching a high school swimming meet-sized crowd at Staples Center for the Pac 10 Tournament.

Johnnies were DD faves, of course . . . final of 128 just tucked under . . . but I wouldn't be looking at that. WOULD be looking at shoveling the Johnnies along. Looked like another case of "well, St. Johns should win over these guys . . . let's agree to see it that way . . . " I've seen Higgins favor St. Johns on innumerable previous occasions -- in my opinion, of course.

Higgins has been so bad for the last 10-15 years that every Big East fanbase can point to probably a dozen instances where they got screwed on calls by him. And Burr's no better, if not worse.

The line was 10. Relax, hoss.

I'm not sure that's the case. From what the announcing crew in the evening doubleheader was saying, you can't go back and review/change something that wasn't called. And as unfortunate as this was, I think that's the right course of action.

I knew I recognized the name Tim Higgins somewhere...turns out he was one of the architects of arguably the biggest officiating screwjob in ACC history.

Tim Higgins was once a very good official, honest. But since I think I was in high school when I first saw him ref a game, and I'm on the AARP unwanted mail list, the problem here appears to be obvious. Refs are athletes, just like players. And just like players, they get too old to perform at the highest levels of their trade.
