OT for Purdue-Va Tech put me between a rock and a hard place. I wanted to move forward to Duke-MSU, but was leery of the Vitale fellatio on Coach K and Izzo, and he didn't disappoint. In the meantime, we were stuck with Musberger and Coach Knight, who actually suggested that it would be better for Purdue if E'Twaun Moore missed his second free throw with 2.5 seconds left; Boilermakers were up by three at the time.

Musberger, for his part, WITH ABOUT A MINUTE LEFT IN OVERTIME, trumpeted the fact that we were watching "Virginia Tech coached by Seth Greenberg and Purdue coached by Matt Painter in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge." Huh. No shit. Talk about loving the sound of your own voice.

Liked Mason better when they had General Westhead.

When they were 38-70? I kinda like Mason better when they're winning, myself.

Nice tight one going at Phog Allen Field House.
UCLA hanging in with Kansas in a near deadlock at halftime.
I like Ben Howland's coaching but he's got an easy job as a recruiter.
    Good game so far tonight.

UCLA ties it with a late three at the Phog Allen, but a foul is called against the Bruins. Kansas gets free throws when they put 0.7 back on the clock. First one good. Tough loss for the gutty little Bruins.

Very impressed with UCLA. Honeycutt is a stud, and that big guy (Smith is it?) was a beast.

Yup. They're very young, but Howland is a top-notch coach. Tough trip to New York, but happy to see this game tonight.

UCLA got horsefucked, both with the call and the fact that they actually "fouled" the one beaker who could make a free throw.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Border War, Mizzou goes down to the wire to win 83-80 at Oregon, which two weeks ago lost to San Jose State and last week lost 98-71 to Duke (and it wasn't really that close).

Some closer-than-expected games for a couple Big 12 favorites tonight.

Missouri is hardly the only team to do this. Not to work Blitz's corner, but Ole Miss and Mississippi State usually play one or two games a year in Jackson, Biloxi or Southaven. Not sure what the status is, but Ole Miss and Southern Miss even talked about an annual off-campus matchup that they'd rotate between the three sites. They'd go south one year, north the next and then meet in Jackson the third year.
It helps with recruiting and allows fans to see a couple programs with a statewide following.

Texas plays North Carolina in Greensboro in a couple weeks; LSU is playing Wichita State in Bossier City and in Tupelo, Miss., against Memphis; and Illinois plays games in Chicago (against UIC) and St. Louis (vs. Missouri). It's not that uncommon.
