Actually, the young guys, especially Henson, looked pretty clueless early on in the season. It was the "veterans" like Ginyard, Graves, Drew, Thompson and Davis who were the keys in those early victories against teams like OSU and Michigan State. The season really fell apart when those older guards started playing horribly and then guys like Davis and Zeller were getting hurt.

However, as one of the few people watching them still, I can say that Henson, McDonald, etc. look much better now than they did earlier in the season. If Davis comes back, as he should, a front line of him and Henson, while not the strongest will be extremely athletic (in a similar manner to Udoh and Acy at Baylor).

Obviously they don't mean anything. But the talk about how surprising it was to see some of these teams advancing is a little off, considering six out of the eight in the regional finals were supposed to be pretty good.

Huggins' 18 years between Final Four third-longest stretch ever. Hard to believe that back in '92 he was there with Duke/Laettner, Knight & the Fab Five.

    36: Ray Meyer (1943 and 1979, DePaul)
19: Lou Henson (1970 New Mexico State; 1989 Illinois)
18: Bob Huggins (1992 Cincinnati; 2010 West Virginia)
17: Eddie Sutton (1978 Arkansas; 1995 Oklahoma State)
14: Slats Gill (1949 and 1963, Oregon State)
    14: Guy Lewis (1968 and 1982, Houston)
    13: Branch McCracken (1940 and 1953, Indiana)
    12: John Calipari (1996 Massachusetts; 2008 Memphis)
10: Jack Gardner (1951 Kansas State; 1961 Utah)
    10: Jerry Tarkanian (1977 and 1987, UNLV)

Tom Izzo is not exactly up there in age yet. As biased as I am for Mike Krzyzewski, there's no question that Izzo is still climbing. If you can't respect Izzo and what he has done at East Lansing, there is something seriously wrong with you.

I didn't realize Huggins was coaching Cincy back then.

Also, coach Cal should vacate his 12 year stretch. Shouldn't count.

Neither of Cal's should count. Both vacated.

I think some people are down on coach K because he had no Final Fours in five years. He could be a national champion again in a week and the focus would shift to coach K being the defacto No.1 coach again.

You never know he could make another Final Four run next year. A year makes a big difference. Before Izzo made it to Detroit last year no one was shouting his name from the rooftops.

So he holds the record for years between "vacated" appearances.

Sorry, Mustang, a lot of people were singing Izzo's praises before last seson.
Now, two years in a row with overachieveing teams, people are shouting their praise from the mountaintops.

And he is as good as it gets right now.

Trashing Mike Krzyzewski has become a pastime both on this board and at the water cooler. It would help if he would stop sending Chris Collins and Wojo to talk with sideline reporters at halftime - people want to see K, not assistant coaches and the TV exposure is helping to write the checks.

That point I've been critical on to a devoted Duke grad and haven't backed down. But otherwise, it's taken in stride. To be blasted this much, the person is either an idiot or so good that people have to tear him down. And while Mike Krzyzewski has been called many, many things, anyone who says he's an idiot isn't too sharp themselves.

I've looked this up on the NCAA web site before - they list all of the so-called "vacated" appearances with the notation that's it is vacated. Sort of defeats the point. If I get time later, I'll try to find the link.

Something like that. Not validating his presence by omitting him from this list would be an excellent start. What DOH said.
