Running 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Rumpleforeskin, Mar 18, 2010.

  1. No. That is not my testimony. But you being the smart person that you are knows as well as anyone that being one of the top three players in a given NCAA tournament doesn't equate to NBA success, so not sure what the point was with your question.

You also know that Hayward is a lottery pick next year, so it's not like he no future at the next level.

The Duke-WVU pulled the best ratings for CBS Final Four in 5 years, and the double-header was an 8% jump over last year. So for those predicting ratings death, maybe it will actually be the opposite tomorrow night.

Hayward MAY be a lottery pick next year, he may also be a guy who remains a in the 20 to 25 range as more people get to see him. He has played great in this tournament but if he stays another year and more NBA scouts get to see him and dissect his game, he may not improve much.

He might - but we've seen it before -- it isn't always a given that staying another year is going to improve a guy's stock and more often than not, guys should leave when they are hot.

He'd be dumb to stay around because right now his stock is probably 5 or 6 picks higher than his actual talent level, especially given how weak the actual draft pool is.

The Triangle schools take this very, very seriously ... i.e., too seriously too often. You saw a prime example Saturday night.

All three Triangle schools are guilty of this. If you think some Chapel Hill fans weren't gloating over the Duke fans the day after it won the national title - and thinking how much fun it would be as the seconds ticked down during the victory over Michigan State - you're kidding yourself. Ditto for some Duke fans.

As for N.C. State fans, so many of them are so busy peering over the fence at Chapel Hill and Durham, they can't remember that their own house isn't too tidy right now.

N.C. State has really fallen behind the other two in basketball. Will the Wolfpack ever catch up?

Given the cyclical tendencies of sports and rivalries, I think so. Keep in mind that in the '70s, NCSU was outstanding and Duke absolutely stunk. In the '80s, Duke got better, NCSU won another national title and Wake Forest couldn't keep its head above water. In the '90s, Wake ascended, NCSU flushed itself down the toilet and Duke stayed up save one disasterous season.

In the last decade, Chapel Hill actually hit a couple of dry spells, Duke stayed pretty good, NCSU dug its way out before so-called fans and boosters flushed it down the toilet again and Wake has been consistently good.

Cyclical. And last decade was proof that no one is immune to a dry spell.

All is well with the world once again if Duke wins the championship.

Well, that was the idea when they granted Puke that grotesque daisy-patch
draw into the South while they threw most of the power into the Midwest snakepit. The NCAA has the collective
    integrity of the Soprano mob.

Shocking, shocking: Dozens arrested in post-game violence in East Lansing.

Duke's tourney draw: 16 seed, California, Purdue, Baylor
What would have been Kansas' tourney draw: 16 seed, Northern Iowa, Michigan State, Tennessee
What would have been Syracuse's tourney draw: 16 seed, Gonzaga, Butler, Kansas State
Kentucky's tourney draw: 16 seed, Wake Forest, Cornell, West Virginia

Gotta let the games be played. Kansas' draw would have been pretty damn easy had they not gone el foldo in the second round.
for the rights to go to Indy? C'mon. At least Duke was playing Baylor in Houston.
