Yep, protect the BCS schools from another Utah-Alabama disaster.

How about you prove that? How about you prove that you aren't completely ignorant about how BCS bowls pick teams?

I must have missed it but TCU and Boise State are both Division I football teams when did they become mid-majors? I thought everyone was equal in football?

When an 8-9 beats a 1 in the second round, which is when most ones who don't make the Final Four do lose BTW, it's an upset, but not a cataclysmic one. Northern Iowa is a real good team, and people have known that since December. Did I think they'd win. Hell, no. But I'm not fainting away because they did.
Villanova-Georgetown is still the biggest of the modern era. But the 1963 final, when Loyola of Chicago beat two-time defending champ Cincinnati, was probably bigger in absolute terms. The sport was smaller, though.
Texas Western-Kentucky remains the number one NCAA tourney game -- it was an upset, a big upset, and in sociocultural sports terms, it was off the charts. It made southern state schools realize they had BETTER integrate.

I know how selections are made. How about you prove that the other BCS bowls directors didn't say "Take one for the team here. We won't select Boise State or TCU. You take them and we'll help you out in another year. We don't need to risk two black eyes this year."

  6. I guess I must be a pretty neutral observer, because on a thread a few weeks ago SportsChick started screaming at me for being a BCS conference apologist/fanboi for saying Alabama didn't play its best against Utah.

The BCS is a total racket. And I'm the same person who argues that Cornell would finish in the lower half of the Pac-10. But you at least have to give schools a chance to play their way into the upper echelon, the way Gonzaga has been able to. I'm not saying to give the mid-majors the most favorable matchups, but holy shit give them a chance at least, to win something on the field.

And possibly Cornell will be playing next weekend too.

Washington finished second in a power conference, won 11 of its final 13 in the regular season and three in a row at the Pac-10 tournament and got seeded 11th?

Did the Selection Committee even watch games? Jeebus, the head of it was a Pac-10 guy.

Did this selection committee even watch any games?

Probably not. They were in their hotel suite eating ice cream.

I posted that note earlier but I didn't think it was right. Couldn't remember anyone getting that far though.

If they're equal, then why do you care that they played each other?
