Cornell took No. 1 seed Kansas to the wire in Lawrence.

Temple was not a good matchup for Cornell. Temple is coached by Fran Dunphy, who was Steve Donahue's boss for a long time. Dunphy's team was not going to be surprised by Cornell and in fact would be pretty damn well versed in what the Big Red was doing, as well as being just as disciplined but with better athletes. Plus, Cornell's ace in the hole is that it shoots 3s better than anyone in the country. Temple was one of the top 3-point defenses in the country (don't have time to look up the numbers or ranking now).

On another note, the obligatory Final Four concert will feature Daughtry, Stone Temple Pilots and LL Cool J for free. In my opinion, still overpriced.

I think STP also played Carb Day at Indy once. Maybe they'll come back to play an Olympic swimming trial or something.

This was the essence of most analysis of the matchup when it was announced. Temple, best defensive team in the country with better athletes should be able to to shut down the "unathletic" shooters from the Ivy. Fran Dunphy knows Steve Donahue and had dominated him head to head. Temple was ranked high in the polls based on their season. Season A-10 Championship. Tournament champion. Those were the facts and the sentiment prior to the game -- without hindsight.

There WERE a lot of people picking Cornell -- in an upset -- because Cornell put themselves on some radar screens with their non-conference schedule. But to suggest that Cornell got a "favorable" match, as one blowhard who makes inflammatory posts and then tries to argue with everyone did, is ridiculous. They were a 12 seed and got the best 5 seed, based on what we knew without the hindsight of how the games turned out. Temple was a team that many thought deserved to be a 3 or a 4 seed.

That's the fact. Cornell has not gotten favorable matchups. They're not the one who played an East Tennessee State, for a virtual bye in the first round, and Wisconsin in the second-round was tougher than what any team in the Sweet 16 faced except Northern Iowa. And now they are facing Kentucky (#2 in the country), and if they win that game, probably West Virginia (#4 in the country). To win the championship, there is a liklihood that they will have met 6 teams ranked in the top 16 of the final AP poll. No team has ever had to win 6 games like that to win the NCAA championship. Temple and Wisconsin were not favorable NCAA match-ups. They are 100 times tougher than what Kentucky had to face to reach this game. Any suggestion that Temple and Wisconsin, both highly ranked teams and considered two of the best defensive teams in the country, were easy match-ups for early-round NCAA games, is inane.

Amigo and Scott Weiland say bring back the Pan-Am Games to Indy!

I moved to Indy in '86 and the Pan-Am Games commercials were hilarious in retrospect. The worst one featured some South American soccer goalie breathlessly exclaiming, "Pan-Am Games ... Indianapolis!" in an accent that was just a little too close to the Speedy Gonzales secondary character racist line for comfort.

Holy shit! The miracle of Youtube. It's there.

Autistic teen has perfect bracket going. But won't win any money because it's just a cbs sports one.

Oh my god, what a find. Only thing better would be The Indianapolis Star radio commercial from the Pan Am Games, which did have Speedy Gonzales singing, "We are the Star of the Pan Am Games... the Ind-ee-o-nap-olis Star."

In retrospect, I'm sorry I didn't buy any of the bootleg Ts that should parrot feathers blown apart and said "Adios Amigo." (Amigo being the highly creative name of the mascot.)

EDIT: While we're on a Pan Am jack, I believe the closing ceremonies featured Miami Sound Machine. Bring them back for the Final Four! I can feel that Conga beat!

Cornell over Temple was an upset only in terms of ranking and seeding. That's it. It shouldn't have surprised anyone. If it did, you obviously weren't paying attention.

Oscar Schmidt can make a cameo too. Denny Crum, Danny Manning and David Robinson can bring their silver medals!
